CRUDINE

Once again the hand of death has been amongst us, and has taken from our midst one of the pioneers of Crudine, Mr. J. Sleath [Heath], at the ripe old age of 84 years. Deceased landed in the colony in the colony in 1844, and was one of theresidents of Sofala in the golden days. From there he removed to Crudine and became one of the first free selectors in this locality. He was instrumental in obtaining for us the Public school and church, and his name will be long remembered bythe inhabitants here. The funeral took place on Thursday, and was one of the largest witnessed on Crudine. It was under the supervision of Mr. R. Clarke, undertaker. (Mudgee Guardian and North Western Representative, Friday 9 March 1900, p. 9).
