Death of a paternal grandmother | Elizabeth Morrison 12 October 1916 Death of Mrs. Perram. The death occurred on Thursday morning last of Mrs. J. Perram, sen., an old and respected resident of Cudgegong. The late Mrs Perram first settled at Cudgegong, together with her husband, who predeceased her by 11 years, 29 years ago, and had lived at the one spot all the time. She reared a large family at Cudgegong, all of whom have been launched out into life with a sound knowledge imparted in the home circle. The deceased lady was well and active till a few months ago, but increasing years brought on infirmity and she gradually became weaker. On the morning of her death she got up out of bed, dressed, and had just finished her morning meal, and sat back in her chair in a peaceful slumber, alas, her last long sleep, and thus at the ripe old age of 74 years she passed to the realm of the Great Beyond, respected by all who knew her. The deceased lady had a host of friends and leaves a family of five daughters and two sons, viz., Mrs. N. Taylor and Mrs. W. Thew (Sydney). Mrs. J. W. Farrar and Mrs. H. Windle (Rylstone), Mrs. T. Carpenter (Victoria), and Alfred and George (Cudgegong). The body was interred in the Cudgegong cemetery, Mr. Taylor having charge of the funeral arrangements. The funeral left the late residence of the deceased attended by a large concourse of vehicles and horsemen, every part of the district around Capertee turning out to do honor to the deceased. The coffin was literally wreathed in flowers. At the graveside the Rev. E. H. Walker delivered an impressive funeral service. To the bereaved family and relatives we extent our sincere sympathy (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 19 October 1916, p. 32). |
Death of a maternal grandfather | Henry Samuel Milton 9 August 1938 DEATHS Mr. H. S. Milton A GRAND old man in the person of Henry Samuel Milton passed away at his home at Cudgegong on Tuesday full of years and honor. He was one of the district's pioneers, and was held in the greatest respect by all classes of the community. He was 84 at the end. A widow and large family survive, and to the bereaved ones, the "Guardian" extends its deepest sympathy. A service was held in the Cudgegong Church this morning, after which the funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the cemetery. Old friends from far and near attended to pay their last sad tribute of respect to the memory of a fine old character. Messrs J. C. Swords and Son conducted the arrangements. Death of a husband | Herbert George Weatherley 19 July 1943 DEATH TRAP Truck Dashes Into Rylstone Dam Man Found Dead in Cabin On Monday last, about 6 p.m., Herbert George Weatherley (36), a grader driver of the Rylstone Shire Council, was driving a truck to his home at Hilltop, about two miles from Rylstone. Some 200 yards from home he had to traverse a dam embankment holding back a considerable quantity of water in a gully. By some means the truck left the embankment and dashed into the water. The driver was trapped in the cabin and was dead when recovered. When he did not return home his wife walked along the road from her home and reached the dam, where she noticed the overturned truck. Despite the cold she dashed into the water and tried desperately to rescue the imprisoned man. Finding this impossible, she sought help and the police were informed. The police and willing helpers were soon on the spot. Three young men entered the water and put ropes on the truck. With the help of those on the bank the vehicle was pulled to the side, the door was opened and the body recovered. Under the supervision of Dr. Howe, artificial respiration was carried out for an hour and a half, but without success. Later a post-mortem examination was held and certain organs were sent to Sydney. It may transpire deceased collapsed at the wheel and died before the truck capsized. Deceased leaves a sorrowing widow and three young boys (the eldest about 11 years to mourn. The remains were interred in the Church of England cemetery. Later a coroner's inquest will be held. Much admiration is expressed for the coolness and courage of Mrs. Weatherley who, in the dark and all alone, tried so gallantly to rescue her husband and assisted in the resuscitation efforts. Deceased met with a very serious accident about 2½ years ago, and of late had not enjoyed the best of health, although he seldom missed a day's work. He has several relatives in the Mudgee district (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 22 July 1943, page 12). Mainly About People The news of the tragic death of Mr. Herbert Weatherley at Rylstone came as a great shock to a wide circle of friends in Mudgee, where the family is well known and very highly respected. The bereaved ones will have the sympathy of the whole community (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Monday 26 July 1943, page 2). |
