Note: Death of a Bylong Resident.

Death of a Bylong Resident. The sad news reaches us of the death of Mr. John Davis, son of Mr. J. Davis, of Ginghi, near Bylong. About three weeks ago the late Mr. Davis, who was extremely popular in the district, began to feel indisposed. Being, however, of an optimistic disposition, and having always enjoyed good health, he thought little of the matter, and continued at his usual occupation. Daily he grew worse, and when, unhappily, it was too late to stay the ravages of a deadly fever, he decided to become an inmate of the Merriwa Hospital. On admission it was found that he was suffering from typhoid in an advanced stage. It was then too late to effect a change for the better and he grew rapidly worse and died on Thursday night last. The deceased was a son-in-law of Mrs. James Wilton, of Church Street, Mudgee, and leaves a sorrowing wife and two young children to mourn their irreparable loss. Mr. Chas. Wilton journeyed to Merriwa on Thursday night last and was present at the bedside when the Grim Reaper carried off a most estimable young man and a model husband. Widespread sympathy is felt for the bereaved widow and orphans. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 9 December 1907, p. 2. Obituary John Davis

Hanging From Tree.

Hurriedly leaving the breakfast table at his home, Ginghi Station, Bylong Valley, Mr. George Henry Davis, gave the impression that he would soon return. He failed to do so, and after a long search his brother Richard found his body suspended from a tree.
At the inquest a verdict of suicide whilst, mentally afflicted, was returned. Deceased, who was 64, was a well known and respected resident of the district. He had been in ill-health for several weeks. He has left a widow and grown-up family(http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article118049671).

Note: Personal Pars

Personal Pars The death at Hornsby last Sunday week, May 24, of Percy Davis, aged 55 years, removes an old and respected resident of Bylong. Deceased was the youngest son of the late John and Mrs. Davis, of Ginghi, and had resided practically all his lifetime at "Sapling Arm," Bylong, ill health causing him to journey citywards some months ago, in a fruitless quest for better health, and on Tuesday, 28th ult., deceased was laid to rest by the side of his parents in the little cemetery at Bylong, in the presence of a large concourse of mourners who had attended to pay their last respects to one who had been an esteemed resident of their district. In addition to the widow, who is in ill health and temporarily resident at Singleton, deceased is survived by the following brothers, Richard (Bylong), Alf (Narrang), and sisters Mesdames Walker (Bylong), McLoy (Five Dock), Mrs Bell (Sydney), and Muriel Davis (Ginghi). The late Percy Davis was a veteran of the Boer War, in which he served with distinction. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. E. H. Pitcher, and the arrangements were in the hands of Mr. J. B. Simpkins (Kandos). Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 11 June 1936, p. 6. Death Percy Davis

Lucky Bylong Resident Remarkable Coincidence

WORD came to hand yesterday that Mr R. ('Dick') Davis, of 'Ginghi' station, By long, had won £12,000 in a southern investment.

The lucky man is well known In the Mudgee and Rylstone districts. His father owned 'Glnghl' and, upon his death, left it to his son, Richard. Mr R. Davis is a little over 60 years of age and is unmarried. He called the syndicate the 'Teacup' Syndicate, but he Is the sole holder of the ticket. A coincidence Is that some years ago he and his sister, Miss Mary Davis, won £1000 in a similar investment. This is the second time in three years that a first prize has gone to Bylong. On the previous occasion, Mrs Bob Carney won £5000 In the State lottery. If this kind of thing keeps up there will be a real gold rush to the famous Bylong Valley(http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article162499092).
