Plans for New Building 11 March 1912

Note: LUE BOOMING

LUE BOOMING At the Mudgee Licensing Court on Friday last Mr. J. Thompson, the popular proprietor of the Lue Hotel, was granted permission to add another six rooms to his hotel. We have seen the plans of the additions, and can safely say that when completed they will make this well-known hostelry one of the best in the district. They will cost about £350. Mr. L. Taylor, of Rylstone, is the contractor, and the work is to be proceeded with immediately. Lue is looking up considerably at the present time, owing to the fact that several large estates are on the eve of being subdivided. Last week Mr. Alexander, Government Architect, pegged out a site for a new school and teacher's residence opposite Mr. Thompson's hotel. The school will be capable of seating 90 children. The new situation is much more central and more convenient than that of the existing building, which is nearly three miles from the township. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 11 March 1912, p. 3. LICENSES RENEWED. At the Mudgee Licensing Court, on Friday, the following licenses were renewed: - Jas. Birtles, Inverness Hotel, Burrundulla; John Thompson, Lue Hotel; Herb. F. McGrath, Merrendee Hotel; Henry , colonial wine license, Macdonald's Creek. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 1 April 1912, p. 2. Licence Renewed John Thompson

Note: Lue.

Lue. (From Our Correspondent). Mr. Thompson, proprietor of the Lue store and butchery, opened his new premises with a fine display on Saturday last. The building, which is of concrete, is a credit to the contractor, Mr. A. Murphy. We trust Host Thompson will do well. There appears to be every likelihood of a future for Lue. A scope of land has been taken up for mining purposes, while six or seven men are at work getting out beritus. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 9 October 1913, p. 30. Open Lue Hotel John Thompson

LUE HOTEL, LUE. Owner and licensee, John Thompson; mortgagee, John Davis, Ginghi Mr. McPherson (McPherson and Bawden) represented Mr. Thompson Police Inspector Bond, in evidence, stated there was one conviction against this hotel. The state of repair of the building was good, there were 15 rooms, of which four bedrooms were used by the public. It has a five stall stable. The distance from Mudlgee was 18 miles. and from Rylstone 14. It catered for the general public, and was well conducted. The population within a radius of four miles was 241. There was a small township there, and a railway station. Grazing, farming, and dairying were carried on in the district. In his opinion the hotel was a necessity. John Thompson, owner and licensee said he had been 25 years in this hotel. There was only one conviction against him. The hotel was patronised by farmers, graziers, and the travelling public. It was on the railway route, as well as the main Bathurst road. It was 12 miles from Barrigan, where an oil works was about to open up. The Chairman: Where is this industry ? Are there men there? Witness: None at present. They are forming the company. Mr. McPherson: A very profitable industry at the present time. (Laughter). The Chairman, (smiling): So the industry is at present in Sydney. Mr. McPherson: Yes, and it generally stops there. John Frederick Booth, C.P. in spector, spoke of the accommodation as being the best in the district. Mr. McPherson: As good as you will get anywhere? - Yes. The Chairman: They are all the best in the district. (Laughter). Inspector Bond: He said that about the Junction Inn yesterday. (Laughter).
