There died at Spring Flat on July 2nd an old resident of Mudgee and Spring Flat of 57 years, in the person of Mrs. Jemima Murkins from senile decay and bronchitis, at the age of 83 years. Deceased leaves five sons and two daughters to mourn her loss, they being Walter (Oakey Park), George and Charles (Eumaralla), James and Henry (Spring Flat), Mrs. F. Fittler (Spring Flat), Mrs. Dougherty (Meroo). The remains were interred in the Church of England portion of the general cemetery. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved. The death occurred at his residence, Spring Flat on Friday night, of Mr. James Murkins, a highly respected and esteemed resident of the district. The deceased, who was 69 years of age, had been ailing for some time. He is survived by his widow (daughter of Mr. Scifleet, of Mudgee) and three children. The deceased had been following on farming pursuits at Spring Flat for many years. The funeral left his late residence yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, the remains being interred in the Church of England portion of the general cemetery. Rev. Canon Dunstan officiated at the graveside, and Mr. J. C. Swords had charge of the funeral arrangements. The members of the Foresters Lodge (of which the deceased was a ber) marched in front of the hearse. Mr. M. W. ? read the burial service at the deceased's late residence, and Mr. ?. Death of a brother | Samuel Henry Murkins 3 May 1928 (aged 67 years) DEATH Mr Henry Murkins, of Spring Flat, died at his home on Thursday last at the age of 54 years, after a protracted illness. He was a peaceful and upright man, and the news of his death was received with deep regret by a wide circle of friends. A widow, three sons, two daughters and several grandchildren are left to mourn their irreparable loss. Deceased is also survived by three bers and two sisters: Walter (Lithgow), George and Charles (Guntawang), Mrs. E. Doherty (Upper Meroo), and Mrs. F. Fittler (Spring Flat). The funeral took place on Friday to the Mudgee cemetery, and was largely attended. Mr. H. Barton directed the funeral arrangements, and the Rev. Canon Parr officiated at the graveside. Death of a brother | George Thomas Murkins 18 April 1941 (aged 80 years) DEATH. MR. GEORGE T. MURKINS. THE death occurred suddenly last Friday of Mr. George T. Murkins, a well-known identity of Gulgong, aged 83 years. Deceased, who was a native of Penrith, was married at Mudgee. The late Mr. Murkins was a valued employee at "Eumaralla," (now known as Guntawang) when the property was owned by the late Mr. H. R. Denison (later Sir Hugh Denison). "George" was a popular figure wherever he moved, and had friends in all parts of the district. Two sons survive, as well as other relatives in Gulgong. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon. Death of a brother | Walter William Murkins 28 June 1946 (0 after death) Age: 87 LITHGOW DEATH. MR. WALTER MURKINS. A highly respected and popular citizen of Lithgow, Mr. Walter William Murkins, died at Lithgow hospital shortly before 11 a.m. this morning, aged 87 years. Born at Pennant Hills, he resided in Lithgow for over 40 years and followed mining in the Oakey Park colliery until his retirement some 15 years ago. Mr. Murkins, who only entered hospital on Sunday last, was a very active man, despite his advanced years, and took a keen interest in gardening. Deceased, whose wife, Mrs. Ada Murkins, predeceased him two years ago, is survived by two daughters - Mrs. A. Allen, Oakey Park, and Mrs. G. Morris, Spring-street - and four sons, Messrs. Walter (Brown-street), Thomas (Sutcliffe-street), Oliver (Spring-street) and Val Murkins (Hermitage Flat), to whom deepest sympathy will be extended. Burial of a brother | Walter William Murkins 29 June 1946 (0 after death) PERSONAL. There was a large attendance at the funeral of Mr. Walter Murkins which took place on Saturday afternoon, moving from the Methodist Church after a service by the Rev. W. Whitbread, who also officiated at the graveside in the Methodist portion of Bowenfels cemetery. Burial was made beside the remains of his late wife. Floral tributes were numerous, an indication of the high esteem in which deceased was held. The pall-bearers were Messrs. The deceased, who had resided almost all his life at Black Lead, though a brickmaker by trade, was more popularly known for his knowledge of gardening and his love of flowers. In this capacity he was, for many years, engaged as gardener to the several successor owners of 'Guntawang' Station near Gulgong. Among these employers was numbered the late Sir Hugh Denison (sometime chairman of Associated Newspapers), Mr. Dan Clark and Mr. L. B. Coward. Born at Penrith, deceased came to Gulgong early in life and, some 60 years ago, married Miss Susan Cross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Cross, of Gulgong. Besides the sorrowing widow, the following sons and daughters survive: Harold (Lithgow), Charles ('Dot,' Gulgong), Bert (Gosford), Fred (Broken Hill), Clarence 'Snow' (Bermagui), Reg (Gulgong), Mrs. McEvoy (Olly, Adelong), Mrs. Elliott (Hilda, Homebush), Mrs. Billerwell (Edna, Adelaide). A ber, Mr. Wal Murkins (Lithgow), and sister, Mrs. Doherty, of Upper Meroo, also survive the deceased. Mr. George Murkins, who died in Gulgong some few years back, was a ber.
