The many friends of Mr. Jack Ashton, of Mudgee, will regret to learn that he is seriously ill and in a very critical condition. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 7 July 1919, p. 2. Ill Jack Ashton The Death of Mr. John Ashton. The death of Mr. John Ashton occurred very shortly before the "Guardian" went to press on Monday, and was briefly reported in that day's paper. The late Mr. John Ashton, who was 57 years of age, had for some time been living at Mudgee, with his nephew, Mr. Gerald Fitzgerald, of the Oriental Hotel, and it was there that his death of which double pneumonia was the cause, occurred. The deceased gentleman had a more than usually amiable and pleasing disposition, which united to endear him to a large circle of friends, to whom the news of his death will come as a painful shock. He is survived by a widow, two sons (Messrs. Conelius and Bert Ashton) and two married daughters. Mr. George Ashton, of Turill, is his only ber, and Mesdames James Fitzgerald (Sydney, formerly of Uarbry), John Nairne (Turill) and McMahon (Turill) are his sisters. The body was taken on Friday (by Mr. J. C. Swords, who had charge of the funeral arrangements) to Uarbry, where he was buried in the Cathlic portion of the general cemetery. The Very Rev. Father Flanagan said the prayers at the graveside. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 10 July 1919, p. 12. Obituary John Ashton |
Death of a wife | Bride V Bolton 17 September 1935 (aged 42 years) Age: 41 LATE MRS. C. ASHTON MRS. C. Ashton, whose death occurred on Tuesday of last week, was 41 years of age. Her untimely death came as a very great shock to her husband and family and friends. She had been listening in to the wireless at 10 o'clock on Monday night prior to retiring for the night in apparently good health. At 4 a.m. she was admitted to the Gulgong District Hospital and died some hours later following an operation. The late Mrs. Ashton, who was a daughter of Mrs. Bolton and the late Mr. William Bolton, of Gulgong, was born at Cassilis, and had many friends in that and the Gulgong and Mudgee districts. She was a home-loving woman, to whom her husband and the following family who are left to mourn their loss were devoted: William, Merle, Melba, Carmel, Hannah, Mary and Norman. The deepest sympathy has been felt for them, The funeral took place to the R.C. portion of the Gulgong cemetery. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 26 September 1935, p. 13. Obituary Bride Ashton |
