The deceased, who had resided almost all his life at Black Lead, though a brickmaker by trade, was more popularly known for his knowledge of gardening and his love of flowers. In this capacity he was, for many years, engaged as gardener to the several successor owners of 'Guntawang' Station near Gulgong. Among these employers was numbered the late Sir Hugh Denison (sometime chairman of Associated Newspapers), Mr. Dan Clark and Mr. L. B. Coward. Born at Penrith, deceased came to Gulgong early in life and, some 60 years ago, married Miss Susan Cross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Cross, of Gulgong. Besides the sorrowing widow, the following sons and daughters survive: Harold (Lithgow), Charles ('Dot,' Gulgong), Bert (Gosford), Fred (Broken Hill), Clarence 'Snow' (Bermagui), Reg (Gulgong), Mrs. McEvoy (Olly, Adelong), Mrs. Elliott (Hilda, Homebush), Mrs. Billerwell (Edna, Adelaide). A ber, Mr. Wal Murkins (Lithgow), and sister, Mrs. Doherty, of Upper Meroo, also survive the deceased. Mr. George Murkins, who died in Gulgong some few years back, was a ber.
