In Memoriam.

We much regret, to have to record, the death of Mr. William J. King, eldest son of Mr. Albert King, of Rylstone. The deceased some twelve months ago had to have his leg amputated for malignant disease of the bones of the foot. He completely recovered from the operation, but a few months afterwards was seized with an attack of pneumonia and pleurisy, and for the past ten months has been in Mudgee under the care of Dr. Nickoll. The heart became seriously affected, and his condition was recognised as serious although a sudden fatal termination was not anticipated. Mr. King was at Mrs. Crawford's hospital, and death relieved him from his sufferings last night, his mother being with him. The remains will be taken to Rylstone where the interment will take place at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday). Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 26 September 1901, p. 12. William King In memoriam

Rylstone News

The death of Mr. W. King, which occurred in Mudgee last Wednesday, came with no surprise to his friends, who expected that the poor fellow could not possibly live through such sufferings. For two long years poor Billy (as he was known by almost everybody) had struggled on manfully against great odds, but despite medical science and tenderly care his days were cut short by the hand of Death at the comparatively early age of 32 years. The family of deceased have been singularly unfortunate, this, I believe, being the sixth member laid to rest. I desire to extend my deepest sympathy to the bereaved family in this, their latest trouble. The funeral was largely attended, the interment taking place in the Church of England portion, the Rev. Sealy Vidal officiating at the grave. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 3 October 1901, p. 18. William King Obituary

Note: DEATH OF MR. A. KING, SEN.

DEATH OF MR. A. KING, SEN. The death occurred on Thursday evening last at Rylstone of Mr. Albert King, sen., of Narrango. The deceased was one of the oldest residents of the district, and was 80 years of age at the time of his death. He arrived in the district in the employ of the late Mr. R. M. Fitzgerald, of Dabee, and for many years remained in his service, until he eventually settled at Narrango, and carried on a mixed farming occupation. The deceased had been ailing for a rather long period, and the end came as stated, from senile decay. The remains, after a service in St. John's Church of England, were interred in the Church of England portion of the Rylstone cemetery, the Rev. E. H. Walker officiating. A very large number of friends and relatives attended the funeral. He leaves a wife and seven sons to mourn their loss. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 30 September 1915, p. 32. Obituary Albert King

Note: The Late Mr. Albert King.

The Late Mr. Albert King. An Old Pioneer. The late Mr. Albert King, sen., of Narrango, whose death occurred on the 23rd September at his son's residence, Mr. Francis King, Fitzgerald-street, Rylstone, was a native of Yorkshire, England. He came out to this country the same year as the fatal ship, Dunbar, was wrecked. He had oft-times told the tale of that terrible night. He said it was the roughest time he had ever spent, their ship being almost wrecked several times. They saw some of the floating wreckage on the voyage. The late Mr. R. Kersley, of Rylstone, and the late Mr. J. Sharp, at one time caretaker of the Mudgee Cemetery, were both shipmates of deceased. Shortly after landing in Sydney he engaged with the late Mr. R. M. Fitzgerald's father, of Dabee as teamster. He drove a team of grey horses, they being the old gentleman's pride. "My word," he had been heard to say, "they were a team to be proud of. You can't get horses like them nowadays." Later on, the deceased settled down at Narrango, and started with a team of his own as carrier. He carted from Sydney to Rylstone, there being no railway at that time. Sydney was only a small village as compared with the present day. After the railway came to Wallerawang, he used to carry wool to "Wang” and bring other loading back to Rylstone. The deceased used to carry from the Cassilis district to Mudgee. Later on, having retired from the business, he carried on mixed farming, till he became a martyr to rheumatism. Then his sons carried on the work of the farm. The deceased gentleman was married twice - there being no children by the first marriage. He married the widow of the late Captain Grayston. He leaves a wife, nine sons, and one step son to mourn, being predeceased by five sons and two daughters. The names of the sons living are Messrs. H. King (Putta Bucca), F. King (Rylstone), Herbert, Arthur, David, Albert, Stanley, Harold and Athol (Narrango), while the step son is Mr. C. T. Grayston (Ginghi). Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 7 October 1915, p. 13. Note: LATE MRS KING

LATE MRS KING

AS briefly stated in our last issue, Mrs. King, a lifelong resident of the Rylstone district, passed away at her son's residence on Monday week, after an illness of many weeks. Deceased had been twice married, her first husband being a retired seafaring man, Captain Grayston, and to this union one son was born, Mr. Chas. Grayston, of Bylong. After the death of her first husband, deceased married Mr. William King, and for many years they lived at Narrango, on the site where Mr. Dave King now resides. To this union a large family of boys and one daughter (Mary, deceased) was born, and the majority of the family live in and around the Rylstone district at the present time, amongst them being Messrs Frank, Dave, Arthur, Herbert, Athol, Stanley and Harold, Henry (Mudgee), whilst William and Albert are deceased. Deceased had the misfortune to break a leg some weeks prior to her demise, and doubtless this accident, allied to her great age (80), was a contributing factor to her death. To the family we extend sympathy in their bereavement. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 1 November 1934, p. 18. Louisa King Obituary
