Birth of a son | Thomas Charles King 26 August 1840 NINETY CANDLES MR. THOMAS KING. NONAGENARIAN'S BIRTHDAY. Mr. Thomas King, formerly of Home Rule, celebrated his ninetieth birthday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. W. Bones, Eurunderee, on August 26. Mr. King received congratulations from far and wide, and many useful presents. The cake, decorated with ninety candles, came all the way from Sydney. In his younger days Mr. King was an enthusiastic cricketer, and belonged to the famous Home Rule team when it included players like the late I. Rowbotham and Alsopp, together with the Raisins, James and others, and was the local champion team. Mr. King could tell of many hard fought battles in the days gone by. His interest in cricket never ceased, and during the recent tests no one was more eager than him to hear the progress of the game. Though so old, Mr. King can get about remarkably well. He has a marvellous memory, and can relate many stirring scenes in the "Roaring Days" of the gold days. He looks, and is, quite hale and hearty, and his host of friends join in wishing him many happy returns of his birthday. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 1 September 1930, p. 19. 90 years Thomas King |
