Death of a father | James Thomas Milton Cluff 1936 (aged 31 years) DEATHS TWO BERS DIE Messrs. F. and J. Cluff THE highly-esteemed Cluff family suffered a double bereavement last week, when Fred. and James passed away within a day of one another. Both were fine, upright citizens, and their demise will be deeply regretted. Mr. Fred Cluff, who had resided in the Birriwa district for many years, passed into the shades on February 28, aged 64 years. Deceased, who was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. Cluff, first saw the light at Tallewang, and was well known and highly respected by all classes of the community. He married Miss R. Milton, a member of a pioneer Cudgegong family. The following sons, all of whom are highly esteemed residents of Birriwa, survive: Stanley, Frederick, Nelson, Henry, Geoffrey, and Noel. One daughter predeceased him. The following bers are also left to mourn: Thomas and Edward (Queensland), and Robert (Birriwa). Messrs. J. T. and W. Cluff, of Mudgee, are cousins. To the sorrowing ones the deepest sympathy of the whole district is extended. Mr. James Thomas Cluff was on a visit to the old home when he had a seizure, and died almost immediately. The double bereavement came as a terrible shock to the family and only time will soften the blow. Deceased, like his late ber, was born at Tallewang, and was 61 years of age. He married Edith, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles New, who, with a grown-up family, survives him. About 30 years ago, deceased, who had the pioneering spirit in him, made his way to Queensland, and acquired a splendid property at Mitchell. Some years ago he disposed of the estate and purchased a farm on the Burnett River. A sad feature in connection with his death was that Mrs. Jones (sister), who had attended the funeral of the late Mr. Fred Cluff, was on her way back to Sydney when, at Wallerawang, she received a message informing her of the passing of another ber. Reunited after many, many years, and then to be suddenly parted, was a cruel blow, and only those who have had a similar experience can imagine the anguish of the bereaved ones. Mrs. H. Tyler, of Queensland, is another sister. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 2 March 1936, p. 7. Death Fred and James Cluff http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article162514128 Mudgee Guardian, Monday 2 March 1936, p. 7.
