Note: LOCAL AND GENERAL NEWS

LOCAL AND GENERAL NEWS LATE MR HUGHES. - Mr. Thomas Hughes, who died at Two Mile Flat on July 18, at the age of 75 years, was a very old and esteemed resident of the district. He followed mining pursuits in the golden days of Canadian Lead, and later proceeded to the New Zealand district, where he engaged in diamond mining. Being a native of Mudgee, he naturally had a soft spot in his heart for the place of his birth, and after a period spent up north he returned to the district, settling down at Two Mile Flat, where he resided for 33 years. He is survived by a sorrowing widow and the following sons and daughters: Viv., T., Two Mile Flat; Mrs. E. Martin, Two Mile Flat; and Mrs. J. Creese, Hornsby. The funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the Gulgong cemetery. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 28 July 1930, p. 5. Obituary Thomas Hughes

WADE - HUGHES (Gulgong) The Presbyterian Church at Gulgong was the scene of a pretty wedding on June 22, when Miss Rita Hughes was married to Laurance Wade, youngest son of Mrs. Wade, of Gulgong. The bride entered the church on the arm of her father, who gave her away. She looked charming in a gown of white stiffened net with lace top over white satin. Her veil was held in place with a floral head-dress. She carried a bouquet of cream and pink roses and fern. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Helen Hughes, and Miss Mavis Lyons, niece of the bridegroom. Both were dressed alike in green stiffened net over green taffeta and carried bouquets of red roses. The flowers of the bride and bridesmaids' bouquets were given by Dr. Marjorie Tunley. The bridegroom was attended by Hilary Hughes (best man) and Vivian Hughes (groomsman), bRothers of the bride. The wedding breakfast was held in the Presbyterian School Hall, where about 50 guests were entertained. The bride's travelling dress was blue with navy accessories. Their future home will be in Gulgong. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 18 July 1946, p. 3. Wedding Wade and Hughes
