Note: LOCAL AND GENERAL NEWS

LOCAL AND GENERAL NEWS LATE MR HUGHES. - Mr. Thomas Hughes, who died at Two Mile Flat on July 18, at the age of 75 years, was a very old and esteemed resident of the district. He followed mining pursuits in the golden days of Canadian Lead, and later proceeded to the New Zealand district, where he engaged in diamond mining. Being a native of Mudgee, he naturally had a soft spot in his heart for the place of his birth, and after a period spent up north he returned to the district, settling down at Two Mile Flat, where he resided for 33 years. He is survived by a sorrowing widow and the following sons and daughters: Viv., T., Two Mile Flat; Mrs. E. Martin, Two Mile Flat; and Mrs. J. Creese, Hornsby. The funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the Gulgong cemetery. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 28 July 1930, p. 5. Obituary Thomas Hughes

Vivian Charles Hughes The death occurred suddenly on Friday, July 21, of Vivian Charles (Jack) Hughes at his home in Belmore Street. Mr. Hughes was born at Bingara in 1895 and came to Gulgong when young and married Louisa Martin in 1919 and raised a family of seven children. He had an expert knowledge of the geology of the area and from his own experience he was able to take many a prospector to the right place with every dish washed bearing large specks of gold. Mr. Hughes also contributed much to the success of successive town celebrations and community organisations. Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife and five sons Hillary (Gulgong), Vivian (Mudgee), Douglas (Cowra), Alex (Point Clare), Colin (Blacktown), and two daughters Rita (Mrs. L. Wade), Helen (Mrs. A.
