Note: DEATH

DEATH Mr. G. H. Mansfield The death occurred in Mudgee Hospital on Tuesday morning of Mr. George Henry Mansfield, aged 78 years. Deceased had resided in the district for practically a lifetime, and in the days before motor transport took possession of the roads he was engaged in carrying operations. He took a justifiable pride in his team, which was rightly regarded as one the finest in the district. A man of sturdy, independent character, he won the respect of his fellows, and his passing will be generally regretted. He is survived by a widow and family of sons and daughters, to whom deep sympathy is extended. After an impressive service in St. John's Church of England, the funeral took place on Wednesday, the Rev. Canon Powell officiating. The arrangements were in the hands of Messrs. J. C. Swords and Son. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 29 March 1945, p. 2. Obituary George Henry Mansfield

Mrs. Maria Mansfield, one of the best known residents of Mudgee, died at the local hospital on Monday last after a short illness, aged 88 years. Deceased, who was born in the Coonabarabran district, came to Mudgee a great many years ago, and during that lengthy period she was held in the highest regard by everyone with whom she came in contact. Like most of the early settlers she was generous to a fault, and never tired of helping those in need. Her late husband was for a considerable period, engaged in the carrying business. She is survived by several sons and daughters, including Archie (Mudgee), Allan (Coolah), and Mrs. E. Orth (Mudgee), and to the sorrowing ones deep sympathy is extended. The funeral took place at the Church of England portion of the general cemetery on Wednesday, the Rev. Canon Powell officiating. Messrs. J. C. Swords & Son carried out the arrangements. Note: DEATH

DEATH MR. A. H. MANSFIELD Local residents were shocked when they learned of the unexpected death of Mr. Allan Harold Mansfield, which occurred at his home in Charles Street on Friday last. Deceased had retired for the night apparently in his usual good health, but at about 4 o'clock in the morning awakened and complained of not feeling too well. He got out of bed and lit a fire in the stove, and his wife also got up and made him a cup of tea. A little later he informed his wife that he was feeling better and she returned to bed, but shortly afterwards she heard a noise, and hastening from bed, she went to the kitchen to find her husband collapsed on the floor. She summoned her ber, Mr. J. P. Tuckey, who resides in an adjoining house and a call was sent to Dr. Taylor, who on arrival found life extinct, the cause of death being a clot of blood in the heart. Deceased, who was 51 years old, was well known in the Coolah and Mudgee districts, and for a number of years up to the time of his sudden and sad demise had been engine driver of the Coolah-Mudgee train. He is survived by his wife (formerly Miss J. Tuckey) and two daughters, Misses Betty and Shirley. The remains were interred next day in the Coolah Cemetery. This paper joins in the expressions of deepest sympathy to the bereaved in their loss. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 6 September 1951, p. 16. Obituary Allan Harold Mansfield
