Note: DEATH AT CASSILIS.

DEATH AT CASSILIS. Mr. William Hutchinson died at Springfield, Cassilis, the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. William Pickett, at 10.30 p.m. on Friday, 1st inst., after a brief illness. On the previous Tuesday night the deceased went to bed apparently as well as usual. As the old gentleman did not always rise very early, no uneasiness was felt till about half-past nine on Wednesday morning, when his daughter, Mrs. Pickett went to his room. She then found him very ill and quite speechless. He had an attack of an old complaint (locomotor ataxia), which some years ago brought him low. Although medical aid was summoned as soon as possible, his condition did not improve, and he passed peacefully away as stated. The deceased gentleman had almost reached his 74th year. He was born near Maitland, and spent almost his whole life in the valley of the Hunter. During the best part of his time he was employed driving the Royal mail, and he will be remembered as one of the best whips who ever steered a team over the unmade roads and bridgeless streams of the early coaching days. The late Mr. Hutchinson leaves a grown up family of three sons, William (Hay), Albert and Francis; and three daughters, Mrs. T. J. Byfield, Mrs. Thos. Lennon, and Mrs. W. Pickett. The remains were laid to rest in the Church of England cemetery beside those of his life partner, who predeceased him by about four or five years. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 14 July 1910, p. 12.
