Wedding. NIVEN - SHEARMAN. A quiet wedding was celebrated at St. Phillip's Church, Church Hill, Sydney, on June 7, by the Rev. Canon Billinghame, when Alma, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Shearman, of Mebul, was married to Reginald, only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Niven, of Spring Ridge, Gulgong. The bride, who was given away by Mr. C. M'Govern, was gowned in a cream tricotine costume and hat to tone, and carried an Early Victorian posy of hyacinths and sweet peas. Miss K. Webber, of Burwood, was bridesmaid, and wore a becoming costume of powder blue gabardine and black velvet hat. Lieut. Howard was best man. The reception was afterwards held at the Hotel Carlton. MRS. SARAH SHEARMAN The death occurred at the residence of her daughter, (Mrs. W. S. Lett, of Belmore street, Gulgong) on Saturday last of Mrs. Sarah Shearman, aged 80, relict of the late Mr. George Shearman, of Mebul. The late Mrs. Shearman was born at Gollan, near Dubbo, and was married in Gulgong. Left to mourn are two sons and four daughters, one ber and one sister, viz: William Shearman (Mebul), Herb Shearman (Spring Ridge), Mrs. M. Gardiner (Mebul), Mrs. E. A. Talbot (Goolma), Mrs. C. R. Niven (Spring Ridge), Mrs. W. S. Lett (Gulgong). Mr. W. Skinner (Goolma), Mrs. S. Diehm (Goolma). Also surviving are 24 grand-children, 22 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, after a short service at St. Luke's Church of England, to the Church of England portion of the Gulgong cemetery, the remains being laid to rest near those of her late husband, who predeceased her about 16 years ago. The Rev. R. Douglas officiated. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. D. Whale. The pall-hearers were the four eldest grandsons, Messrs. C. Gardiner, F. and A. Talbot and J. Lett. OBITUARY

SUSANNAH MAY GARDINER The death occurred of one of the pioneers of the Goolma Mebul area, Mrs. Susannah May Gardiner, aged 89 years, of Cox Street, Mudgee, in the Mudgee District Hospital on August 17. Mrs. Gardiner spent over 70 years at Mebul before coming to Mudgee to live ten years ago. Her funeral took place in the Gulgong Cemetery following a service in St. Luke’s Church of England, Gulgong on Friday, August 20. Mrs. Gardiner attended Goolma School and although not participating in sporting activities, she was involved in the administrative side of many tennis tournaments. Mrs. Gardiner was the second eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Shearman, of Goolma. Her husband, Mr. Frederick Gardiner, pre-deceased her. Frederick and Susannah were married in St. Luke’s Church of England, Gulgong in 1903 and lived on their property known as “Wood Burn”, Mebul. Mrs. Gardiner is survived by three daughters, Ida (Mrs. Birtles, Gulgong), Lila and Hazel, both of Mudgee. A fourth daughter Eileen and five sons, Cecil, Claude, Colin (Tim), Athol and Wallace all pre-deceased her. Mrs. Gardiner is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Marie Gardiner, Mudgee, and six grandchildren, Colin, Kevin and Rose Gardiner, Mebul, Reg Birtles, Mudgee, Mrs. Patricia Hartley, Sydney, and Elewyn (Joe) Birtles, Sydney and ten great grandchildren. Four brothers and one sister pre-deceased her, she is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Talbot (Leichhardt), Mrs. Alma Niven (Mudgee) and Mrs. Ina Lett (Gulgong).
