Note: WEDDING BELLS

WEDDING BELLS HARVEY - PHIPPS. The wedding was solemnised at St. John's Church of England on Saturday of Charles, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Phipps, of Granville, and Dulcie Margaret, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Harvey, of West End, Mudgee. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, was attired in ivory crepe de chine, tastefully trimmed with crystal beads. She wore the customary wreath and veil and carried a lovely bouquet of choice white chrysanthemums and asparagus fern with white silk streamers. Miss Myra Rayner (cousin of the bride) acted as bridesmaid, wearing pink crepe de chine and black Lady Betty hat trimmed with pink roses and black satin streamers. She also carried a pink bouquet with pink silk streamers which, with a Nellie Stewart bangle, was a present from the bridegroom. The bridesmaid's bouquet, together with a handsome Nellie Stewart bangle was also a present from the bridegroom. The bride's present to the bridegroom was a xylonite military hair brush and comb. The wedding breakfast was held at the residence of the bride's parents. The happy couple left by the evening train for their future home at Granville, the bride travelling in a mole mousse-line with oriental trimmings and cream hat trimmed with autumn flowers. Amongst the many costly presents received was a lovely three decker wedding cake from the bride's parents, which was a work of art and reflected credit on Mr. J. Dykes. Note: DEATH

DEATH Mr. John Harvey A very old and widely respected resident of the district, in the person of Mr. John Harvey, died in a private hospital in Mudgee this morning, aged 72 years. His wife predeceased him by about three years. Deceased resided at Frome's Creek for the greater part of his life, and was held in the highest regard by everyone in the community. Like so many of the men reared in that locality, he was a great lover of the grand old game of cricket, and for very many years was a member of the old Cullenbone club - a power in the land in those days. With the club he played all over the district, often making long journeys to fulfil engagements, and the transport arrangements, it must be remembered, were not what they are today. He gained a fine reputation as a player and sportsman, and many of the old hands will hear of his passing with the deepest regret. Deceased is survived by one son and two daughters, viz.: Vin (Brogan's Creek), Mrs. Stackpoole (Frome's Creek) and Edith (Sydney). To the sorrowing ones sincere sympathy will be extended. The funeral will take place to the Church of England portion of the Mudgee cemetery tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. and the Rev. A. G. Powell will conduct the service. Messrs. J C. Swords and Son are in charge of the arrangements. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 9 September 1943, p. 4. John Harvey Obituary
