Death of a brother | John Harvey 9 September 1943 (aged 69 years) DEATH Mr. John Harvey A very old and widely respected resident of the district, in the person of Mr. John Harvey, died in a private hospital in Mudgee this morning, aged 72 years. His wife predeceased him by about three years. Deceased resided at Frome's Creek for the greater part of his life, and was held in the highest regard by everyone in the community. Like so many of the men reared in that locality, he was a great lover of the grand old game of cricket, and for very many years was a member of the old Cullenbone club - a power in the land in those days. With the club he played all over the district, often making long journeys to fulfil engagements, and the transport arrangements, it must be remembered, were not what they are today. He gained a fine reputation as a player and sportsman, and many of the old hands will hear of his passing with the deepest regret. Deceased is survived by one son and two daughters, viz.: Vin (Brogan's Creek), Mrs. Stackpoole (Frome's Creek) and Edith (Sydney). To the sorrowing ones sincere sympathy will be extended. The funeral will take place to the Church of England portion of the Mudgee cemetery tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. and the Rev. A. G. Powell will conduct the service. Messrs. J C. Swords and Son are in charge of the arrangements. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 9 September 1943, p. 4. John Harvey Obituary |
