MR. PHIL. WEIS An old pioneer of the district, in Mr. Phil. Weis, passed away at Gulgong on Friday last. Deceased, who was 88 years of age, was predeceased by his wife about 14 years ago. He is survived by four sons - Peter (Clyde), John (Birriwa), Eric (Reedy Creek) and Clarrie (Mudgee), and five daughters - Eva (Mrs. Bayliss (Gulgong), Mary (Mrs. Lund, Manilla), Rose (Mrs. M. DEATH The death occurred recently at the Manilla District Hospital, after a brief illness, of Mrs. Mary Lund, wife of Mr. Charlie Lund, of Manilla and formerly of the Tallawang district, at the age of 79 years. She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Ellis, of Normanhurst, and Ernie, of Manilla. Interment took place in the Church of England portion of the Manilla cemetery. OBITUARY MR. J. P. WEIS The death occurred in a Sydney Hospital recently of Joseph Peter (Peter) Weis. The late Mr. Weis took up land near Birriwa, about 1908. In 1928 he sold this property “Iresine”, and moved to “Leona Downs”, Tambar Springs. Some years later he moved to Tamworth and became the proprietor of “The Don” guest house. In 1942 he moved to Sydney where he made his home at 2 Third Street, Granville, until his death. During the war years, the late Mr. Weis was called to work at McPherson’s, at St. Peters, where he remained until he retired in 1958. The late Mr. Weis was born near Gulgong in 1891, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Weis, of Birriwa. He married Alice Adams, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Adams, of Birriwa. They celebrated their golden wedding in February, 1964. He is survived by his wife Alice, three daughters, Pauline, (Mrs. Les Finlay, Gunnedah), Anne, (Mrs. B. Morgan, Punchbowl), Mavis, (Mrs. E. Scott, Tamworth). There are ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Jack (Mudgee), Ernest (Gulgong), Clarrie (Sydney), and five sisters, Eve (Mrs. Bayliss, Gulgong), Rose (Mrs. Comer, Gulgong), Mary (Mrs. Lund Manila), Alice (Mrs. Gorringe ) and Lily (Mrs. Barton), both of Mudgee.
