Cudgegong Valley History Project

Mr. Francis McManus, who recently passed away at his late residence at Ilford Road, Kandos, was a very old and highly respected resident of the Ilford district, where he had resided for the past 50 years. Owing to declining health, he retired from the land and went to live in Kandos some 15 months ago. He is survived by a sorrowing wife and family of three, Thomas (Goulburn), Aphonso (Annandale) and Mrs. A. L. Cafe (Kandos), to whom deepest sympathy is extended (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 2 April 1953, page 2).

Death Ada May Halpin The death occurred on Easter Monday of Ada May Halpin, of Rylstone, at the age of 86, in Sunbury Private Hospital, Sydney. Deceased had lived in Rylstone for many years and among her relatives she left two sons, Col and Wilf, of Rylstone, and a daughter, Mrs. McManus, of Sydney. The remains were conveyed to Rylstone and the funeral took place the following day, at 2 p.m. after a service in Rylstone Methodist Church, by Rev. Browning and moved to the Methodist portion of Rylstone Cemetery, arrangements being in the hands of Mr. Norman Brown, Funeral Director, of Rylstone. Obituary: ALPHONSO JAMES McMANUS The sudden death occurred on June 5, of Alphonso (Phonce) James McManus, 78, of Bass Hill. The late Mr McManus was a former Kandos resident and was a retired Publican and businessman. Prior to leaving Kandos to reside in Sydney, he conducted the Wine Shop in Angus Avenue and was a keen tennis player. He is survived by his wife Linda and daughter Marie (Schriber) and Carmel (Mrs Shambrook), a sister Mona (Mrs Cafe, Kandos), nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A daughter Lorraine and ber Tom predeceased him. A service was held at Sefton Catholic Church followed by interment in Rookwood lawn cemetery. Mudgee Guardian, Friday 12 July 1985 p. 10.
