The Great Call. Mr. John Rhodes. One of this district's best-known and most respected pioneers, in the person of Mr. John Rhodes, sen., of Limestone, was called to his long home on Thursday, October 2. The cause of death was senile decay. Deceased was 87 years of age. He landed in Australia in 1857, arriving in Melbourne in the old sailing ship "Lightning." Soon after arrival he caught the gold fever, and went to the diggings, but met with little success. Between 40 and 50 years ago he came to Mudgee district, and assisted in the laying out of Hargraves, Merrendee, Louisa, and other district centres. He then went in for general farming, and met with success, gradually improving his property till it was one of the best in the district. He was a careful, thorough, well-read, and obliging citizen, who will be much missed from the community. Deceased was a native of Bingley, Yorkshire, England. He is survived by a widow, 86 years of age, and the following children : - Edwin (Dunedoo), Mrs. Geo. Rayner, sen. (Mullamuddy), Mrs. E. G. Wood (Fairfield, Sydney), Mrs. G. Goag (New Lambton), Albert, John, and George (Limestone). Altogether, over 100 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren survive. He was married for 64 years. The remains were interred in the Methodist portion of the Cudgegong cemetery, Rev. Mr. Rolfe, of Rylstone, officiating at the graveside (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 9 October 1913, page 18).

DEATH OF AN OLD CUDGEGONG RESIDENT MR. JOHN RAYNER. The death occurred at his residence, Cudgegong, yesterday of John Rayner, a very old and respected resident of that place, aged 80 years. The remains were interred in the Cudgegong Cemetery this morning. The Rev. Owen Evans (Rylstone) officiated at the graveside. Mr. J. C. Swords had charge of the funeral arrangements. The deceased is survived by a grown-up family (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Monday 15 November 1920, p. 8).

DEATH Mrs M. A. Rayner THE death occurred at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr A. Rhodes, Gulgamree, this morning, of Mrs Mary Anne Rayner, at the age of 91. The late Mrs Rayner, who was a very old and highly-respected resident of the Mudgee district, is survived by one daughter, Mrs. A. Rhodes. Her husband predeceased her by 13 years. The funeral will take place at the Cudgegong Cemetery to-morrow morning (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 4 January 1934, p. 4).

Clarke - Rhodes ON Saturday morning last, at 11.30 a wedding of local interest was solemnised at St. John's, Mudgee, when Rev. L. Walker joined in the holy bonds of matrimony Miss Jean Clarke, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. J. Clarke, of Beroona, Lue, and Mr. L. Rhodes, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Rhodes, of Gulgamree, via Mudgee. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father to the strains of "Here Comes the Bride," was accompanied to the altar by the bridesmaid and flower girl, Miss Dulcie Clarke and Miss Joan Jackson. Her gown was of magnolia angelskin georgette, over which she wore the customary wreath and veil, and carried a sheaf of tiger lilies and Cecil Brunner roses with a trail of tuber roses. The bridesmaid's frock was powder blue georgette with which she wore a halo of pleated tulle and silver leaves and carried a sheaf of pink gladioli, blue Japanese hydrangea with a trail of delphiniums and pink carnation. Shell pink georgette with a halo of pleated tulle and tiny velvet flowers was worn by the little flower girl and her posy consisted of pink carnations, blue Japanese hydrangea and Cecil Brunner roses. Mr. Hugh Rhodes, brother of the bridegroom, carried out the duties of best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Paragon Hotel, where Mrs. Clarke, gowned in a navy ensemble and carrying a posy of cream rosebuds, received her 30 guests. The bridegroom's mother chose navy also, and carried a posy of red rosebuds. Rev. L. C. S. Walker presided at the reception and, after the toast of the King was honored, the usual list of toasts was proceeded with. Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes left for their honeymoon on the evening's train, Mrs. Rhodes wearing a navy delustred crepe frock with hat and shoes en suite. Their future home will be in Sydney. DEATH Mr. A. W. Rhodes THE death occurred in a Mudgee private hospital this morning of Mr. Albert William Rhodes, of Gulgamree, aged 71 years. Deceased, who had resided in the district all his life, was held in the highest esteem by all classes of the community. He followed farming and grazing pursuits over a great many years, and, like most of the Gulgamree men, was a keen supporter of manly sport. In the days when the Gulgamree cricketers were a strong force in the land, with the late Billy Cox and George Rayner as leaders, he was ever ready to take a hand, and always played the game as it should be played. Deceased is survived by a widow and three sons, viz., Lester, Wallace and Hubert, to whom the deepest sympathy will be extended. After a service in the Mudgee Methodist Church to-morrow (Friday) morning by the Rev. R. P. Gibarth, the funeral will leave for the Cudgegong cemetery, Messrs J. C.
