Cox's office, on Tuesday last, when there were present, Messrs. M. R. Lowe, (chair), H. Crossing, H. E. A. Wells, and G. H. Cohen. Tenders for ploughing, harrowing, rolling, and spreading tea bark on the track, were opened, Adam Menchin, £4 7s 6d being the lowest, was accepted. It was agreed to increase the caretaker's salary to £15 per annum, on condition that he keeps the course and the track in proper working order. There was no further business. Horse shot | 29 October 1906 (aged 38 years) Mudgee Guardian, Monday 29 October 1906, p. 2. Adam Menchin Horse shot The Pea-rifle Fiend. A few weeks ago, Mr. Adam Menchin, of Wilbetree, was feeding up his Cranbrook gelding, Grenadier, who was to be prepared for future race meetings, and on coming home one day, found the horse in the paddock scarcely able to walk. On examination, one of the horse's hocks was found to be terribly swollen, and bore traces of having been shot by a pea-rifle. Grenadier is now under the care of Mr. James Blower, of West End, who has the distinction of being a vet of no mean order, and a cure is anticipated. It is rather unfortunate for Mr. Menchin that Grenadier was so badly injured, considering that district race meetings are not far distant. The pea-rifle is a pest of the first water, and seems to be as reckless and careless as an untamed cowboy when poaching on other people's property. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 29 October 1906, p. 2. At the Police Court this morning, Henry Otto Rotten, Forest guard, proceeded against John Dykes and Adam Menchin, for removing timber, other than firewood, from Crown Lands at Goodiman, on the 26th May, without holding licenses to do so. The P.M. thought that under tho circumstances the prosecution might be waived for the future. Mr. Rotten, however, explained that his instructions were to institute proceedings against all similar offenders against the provision of the Act. Each of the defendants were then fined 1s and 6s costs. The fines and costs were immediately paid. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 20 July 1908, p. 2. Adam Menchin Sleepers |
