| Death of a paternal grandmother | Catherine Elizabeth Pickett 25 June 1948 (aged 22 years) DEATHS Mrs. C. Smede The death occurred in the Mudgee Hospital on Friday last of Mrs. Catherine Smede, at the great age of 96 years. Deceased who was one of the oldest identities of the Mudgee district, was a lady of sterling character, and won the love and respect of everyone with whom she came in contact. Like most of the pioneers, she was noted for her great, kindness and charity, and delighted in the performance of good deeds. Her passing will leave a gap in the lives of many people in town and district. To the sorrowing family the deepest sympathy will be extended. The funeral, which was attended by many old friends of the family, took place to the Church of England portion of the general cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the Rev. Canon Powell officiating.
