Deaths.

MRS. MASON. On Sunday morning, at 6 a.m., Mrs. W. Mason, of Lower Botobolar, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J. Coffrey, Church-street, Mudgee, at the age of 67 years, surrounded by her husband, sons, and daughters. The cause of death was heart failure. The late Mrs. Mason was a native of West Maitland, and shortly after her marriage came to reside in the Mudgee district. For the last 10 years she lived here, and was widely known and greatly esteemed by all those who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. Her bright and genial manner won her many friends of lifelong standing. She leaves a sorrowing husband and five sons and three daughters to mourn, viz., Mrs. J. Caffrey, Church-street, Mudgee; Mrs. J. Lynch, Lower Botobolar; Mrs. P. J. Ward, Denison-street, Mudgee; Mr. W. Mason, Lawson's Creek; Mr T. H. Mason, Mendooran; Mr. J. D. Mason (Budgee); Mr. Joseph Mason, Glenbrook, Spicer's Creek; and Mr. James Mason, Lower Botobolar. The late Mrs. Mason had been a chronic sufferer from rheumatism, and for the past sixteen years was a martyr to that complaint. Although she was invalided so long, it was only last week that she exhibited any signs that excited the alarm of her friends. Medical attention was called in, and the doctors were unremitting in their attention; their efforts did much to alleviate her suffering, but medical skill was unable to stay the icy hand of death, and she passed peacefully away. In addition to her own family, she leaves a large number of grandchildren. The funeral cortege will leave Church-street between 1 and 2 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) Mr. C. Death of Mr. Wm. Mason, sen.

AN OLD BOTOBOLAR RESIDENT. The death occurred at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Ward, of Lewis-street, Mudgee, this (Monday) morning of Mr. William Mason, Senr., aged 77 years, the cause of death being senile decay. The deceased was a retired farmer having followed farming pursuits at Botobolar for about 20 years. He was a native of Maitland. His wife (who was a Miss Grady, also of Maitland) predeceased him by three years. The deceased was a fine big man, standing 6ft. 1in., and was very healthy, never having suffered from any sickness until about three weeks ago, when he began to suffer from old age, to which he succumbed this morning. The deceased was one of the most highly respected and esteemed residents of the district. Some few years ago the late Mr. Mason retired from farming operations and came to Mudgee, where he had resided with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Ward. The deceased is survived by eight children, namely, Messrs. William (Lawson's Creek); T. R. (Mendooran), J. D. (Pipeclay), Joseph (Spicer's Creek), James (Botobolar), Messames J. J. Caffrey (Mudgee), J. J. Lynch Botobolar) and P. G. Ward (Mudgee). The remains will leave the residence of Mr. P. G. Ward's tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon, and will be conveyed to St. Mary's Church where the first portion of the funeral service will be held. The remains will be removed from the church at 2.30 p.m. Mr. J. C. Swords will carry out the funeral arrangements, and the Very Rev. Father Flanagan will officiate at the graveside. MRS. ALICE WALSH

Mrs. Alice Walsh, widow of the late James Walsh, died at the residence of her daughter (Mrs. Jack Mason), Budgee Budgee yesterday afternoon. Deceased who had attained the age of 75 years, leave a family of six sons and one daughter, their names being Alfred, William, Cecil (Budgee Budgee), Frank (Piambong), George (Wellington), Leslie (Broken Hill), and Mrs. J. D. Mason (Budgee Budgee). The funeral took place this afternoon in the Catholic section of the Mudgee cemetery. The Rev. Father Flanagan read the burial service, and Mr. J. C. Mr. J. D. Mason

Genuine regret was expressed in Mudgee on Wednesday when it became known that Mr. J. D. Mason, one of the district's best known and most highly-esteemed residents had died in a local private hospital. He had been under treatment for some time, but was apparently making a satisfactory recovery. Yesterday, however, serious symptoms developed, and he passed away with tragic suddenness. Deceased was a man of sterling character, and, by sheer merit, won a place of trust in the community. His lamentable death will be a loss to the town, and deep sympathy will go out to the bereaved widow, and family. He was 60 years of age, was born at Pipeclay, and resided in this district all his life. At the time of his death he was secretary of the Mudgee Cooperative Benefit Building Society, and was formerly labor agent. He is survived by a wife and four children. The two sons are John (Earlwood, Sydney), and Frank (Buckaroo), and the daughters, Mrs. W. Morgan (Limestone), and Mrs. A. E. Heaslip (Mudgee). Messrs. T. Mason and J. Mason, of Mendooran and Spicer's Creek are brothers, and Mesdames J. J. Lynch, of Botobolar, and Buckler and Ward, of Sydney, are sisters. The funeral took place this afternoon to the Mudgee cemetery after a Requiem Mass at the Catholic Church. The interment was in the hands of Mr. J. C. Swords. OBITUARY

LATE MRS. L MASON Mrs. Louisa Mason, who died rather suddenly at the residence of her daughter, (Mrs. Heaslip) at Ulan, had reached the age of 79 years. She was a member of the fine old Walsh family, of Havilah and resided at Buckaroo for practically a lifetime where she was held in the highest regard by all sections of the community. Like so many of the older people, she considered it a privilege to be able to help anyone in distress, and her charitable deeds will be ever remembered. Her husband predeceased her about twenty years, and she is survived by the following sons and daughters: Frank (Buckaroo) and John (headmaster of the Queanbeyan school), Mrs. W. Morgan (Lismore) and Mrs. A. Heaslip (Ulan). The brothers are Frank (Mudgee), William (Buckaroo), Alfred (Quaker's Hill) and Leslie (Lithgow). There are also nine grandchildren. To all of the sorrowing ones sincere sympathy is extended. The funeral was attended by many old friends of the family, and the large collection of floral tributes was evidence of the love in which she was held.
