He was Thomas Learmont Grimshaw, aged 87 years. He came to Glen Alice with his parents at the age of three years and at this time, his father, Charles Grimshaw was a pioneer of the Glen Alice area. During his lifetime, deceased was noted as an outstanding horseman and a very competent shearer when blades were used. He was a keen sportsman and held active interests in the Glen Alice cricket club by holding the position of president until 18 months ago and was trustee of Glen Alice recreation area. In his early years he was a successful apiarist and, as the result of winning a bee keeping competition, he was awarded a queen bee from America, thus starting a new strain of bees in Glen Alice and district. He left two daughters, Violet (Mrs. Claude Farrar), Lilly (Mrs. Hook) and two sons, Laurie and Jack. His wife and eldest son, Les, predeceased him by a short time. To his sorrowing relatives deepest sympathy is extended. The funeral took place at 4 p.m. from Glen Alice Community Church after a service by Rev. J. S. Bootle and moved to the Church of England portion of the Glen Alice cemetery. Arrangements were in the hands of Mr. Norm Brown, of Rylstone. Mudgee Guardian, Friday, 11 October 1962 p 20 |
