Death of a brother | Abel Harris 21 April 1879 (aged 35 years) Rylstone April 28. Since my last report, a shocking fatal accident has occurred to an old and highly respected resident of this district, Mr Abel Harris, of Kelgoolah. The unfortunate gentleman had been placing some men to work at ringbarking, on a certain portion of his estate, and at some distance from his residence, and was returning to his home last Monday evening, driving a four course dray. Although the deceased did not return at the time he was expected, still no particular alarm was felt by hisfamily, as it was thought he had been detained at the place to which he had gone. On Wednesday, however, one of the men alluded to repaired to the station for rations, and it was then discovered that something must have occurred. Search was atonce made, and about a mile and a half from Kelgoolah at the dray was found capsised, the body of the unfortunate gentleman quite dead, two of the horses also dead, and the other two in a very distressed state, owing, doubtless, to the effortswhich they had made to extricate themselves from the dray. An enquiry was held the following day, by W W Armstrong, Esq., C P S for the district, and a verdict recorded in accordance with the facts. The body of the deceased was interred onFriday last in our local cemetery, followed by a very numerous cortege of mourners, the late Mr Harris being both widely connected and highly esteemed throughout the district (Australian Town and Country Journal, Saturday 3 May 1879, p. 39). |

Death of a brother | George Harris 5 November 1920 (aged 77 years) The Church Triumphant MR. GEORGE HARRIS. When the late George Harris, of 'Woodlands,' Ilford (Rylstone Circuit) passed away on November 5th, the Methodist Church lost one of its noblest sons. He was born 79 years ago in the Rylstone district, and lived there all his life. During his long and useful life, the late Mr Harris showed an intense loyalty to the Methodist Church and its doctrines, and enjoyed a beautiful experience of heart religion. His name has been associated with the Church where he worshipped for over 50 years as the builder and during that time he sought to build for himself a house not made with hands, to which the voice of death called him. He leaves a widow and a noble family of sons and daughters, all of whom share their father's faith in God. Truly the life and death of George Harris are another triumph of faith and work (Methodist Saturday 4 December 1920, page 8). DEATHS. HARRIS.—November 5, at Woodlands, Ilford, George, beloved husband of Martha Harris, in his 80th year. Sydney Morning Herald, Tuesday 9 November 1920, p. 8. Death notice, George Harris |

Death of a sister | Dinah Harris 11 July 1932 (aged 88 years) Age: 86 OBITUARY MRS NINA DAVIS Death on Monday removed a very old resident of the district with the person of Mrs. Nina Davis who lived at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. P. W. Tindale, at West Mudgee. The deceased was 86 years of age at the time of her passing and came of the oldest pioneering family in the Rylstone district, her maiden name being Harris. She was born at Calcoola, Rylstone, and was the relict of the late Charles Davis, of Rylstone. For many years Mrs. Davis had been well and favorably known by a large circle of friends, and was a great worker for her church, the Church of England. She leaves two sons and five daughters to mourn her loss. These are: Mr. W. Davis, of Bylong; Mr. Herb. Davis, Bylong, Mrs. Gettens, of Bylong; Miss Evelyn Davis, Mudgee; Mrs. P. W. Tindale, Mrs. E. S. Nock, of Bogie, Rylstone; and Mrs. W. E. Tweedie, of Portland, the latter being very well known in Mudgee at one time. The deceased lady was buried at Bylong cemetery. Prior to the departure for the graveside, a service was held in the Bylong Church, when the Rev. Richard Mathers officiated. The service was very largely attended, bearing witness to the esteem in which the old lady was held by all, and the cortege when left the church was one of the largest that has been seen in Bylong. At the graveside the Rev. Mathers completed the burial service. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by sympathetic friends. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. H. Barton, of Mudgee. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 14 July 1932, p. 4. Death Dinah Davis Deaths DAVIS. - July 11, 1932, at the residence of her daughter (Mrs. P. W.
