DEATH OF MR. G. MASON.

Mr. George Mason, one of the oldest residents, if not the oldest, died on Monday last. The deceased was a splendid type of physical manhood. Until quite recently the old gentleman had enjoyed the best of health, but advancing years compelled him to give up his bush life and come to town. His end was not unexpected. He was 84 years of age at the time of his death. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 29 May 1913, p. 14. George Mason Obituary

MRS. G. MAS0N.

There passed away, at her residence, Melon-street, Rylstone, on the 2nd October, one of the most highly-esteemed residents of the district, in the person of Mrs. George Mason, at the ripe age of 86 years. Her husband predeceased her by two years and five months. The deceased lady was born in Cambridge, England, and arrived in Australia in 1858. She came to the country with her husband, the late George Mason, and settled near Rylstone. She reared a family of five sons and five daughters, of whom eight are living, viz: William (Quirindi), Frederick (Queensland), George (Wollar), Francis (Rylstone), Mrs. J. Mulholland (Rylstone), Mrs. Boyle (Western Australia), Mrs. G. Morrison (Murrumbo) and Mrs. W. F. Muller (Mudgee). The funeral was very largely attended. The remains were interred in the Church of England portion of the Rylstone cemetery, Rev. Harris performing the last sad rites at the graveside. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 11 October 1915, p. 1. Note: Personal Notes

Personal Notes By the death of Mr. George Mason, of Wollar, the district has lost a very worthy citizen. Deceased, settled in the Wollar area upwards of half a century ago, and during that lengthy period was closely associated with many activities of a worthwhile character. Local government affairs interested him, and he served with distinction as a member of Cudgegong Shire Council. Altogether, the late George Mason was a particularly fine character, and it was no wonder he commanded the respect of all classes of the community. He is survived by a family of sons and daughters, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. The funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the Wollar cemetery, Rev. Canon Powell officiating. The arrangements were in the hands of Messrs. Eastaugh and Carroll. The late Mr. George Mason was a member of the Cudgegong Shire Council some years ago, and at yesterday's meeting reference was made to the highly capable way in which he had served the ratepayers. It was decided to forward a message of condolence to the bereaved family. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 15 March 1951, p. 12. Obituary George Mason
