Note: OBITUARY

OBITUARY Mrs. Ellen McDonald "IN the midst of life we are in death." How true this surely is was borne out by the passing of Mrs E. S. McDonald (relict of the late Alex McDonald), who passed away in the district hospital on Friday, March 19, aged 61 years, for only a few short weeks ago this fine old lady, respected by everyone throughout the Rylstone district, was speaking to our representative in Ryl-stone and said that she had never felt in better health for many years. Sudden illness, however, overcame our friend, and it was with the greatest regret that we learned she had passed away peacefully and quietly, and now lies at rest among so many of her lifelong friends and relatives in the Rylstone cemetery. A vast concourse of mourners attended the simple service conducted in St. James' Church of England by the Rev. J. S. Richards on Saturday afternoon, whilst dozens of cars followed the remains to the cemetery, and the number of floral tributes placed on the casket bore mute testimony to the esteem and respect in which the deceased and the McDonald family are held throughout the district. The casket was borne to the graveside by the four sons, Messrs Allan, Clem, Keith and Victor, a touching tribute by four gentlemen to their mother, one of nature's gentlewomen, and the scene at the graveside was indeed a sad one. Deceased was a Miss Riches, daughter of the late David and Sophie Riches, and born at Camboon. Messrs Robert, Albert, Dave, Bert and Jack (William deceased) being brothers, and Mesdames Alf. Halpin (Agnes), E. Farrer (Ethel), Jas. Black (Josephine) and E. Wyldes (Elsie) being the sisters of deceased. To these members and all others of the family, especially to the four sons, the "Guardian" extends deepest sympathy in their overwhelming loss. The Rector of St. James, Rev. J. S. Richards, conducted both services, whilst the arrangements were in the hands of Mr J. B. Simpkins (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 25 March 1937, page 6).

Note: Obituary

Obituary Mr. R. Halpin The recent death of Mr. Rex. Halpin came as a shock to his people and the Rylstone district generally. Mr. Halpin was the popular one and only barber in Rylstone for all his adult life, and was a member of one of the district's pioneering families. A family "tree" compiled in the last few years is an interesting document held by one of its members and brought to a meeting of the Rylstone-Kandos Historical Society for inspection. It was interesting to see how the name of Halpin is linked with so many of the district's families. Mudgee Guardian Friday 2 December 1966 p. 10. Obituary Rex Halpin
