Death of a father | Reuben Leader 24 June 1939 (aged 46 years) Obituary The Late Mr Reuben Leader As briefly reported in last issue, the death occurred at Mendooran of M r Reuben Leader, of "Ringwood," Piambra, at the age of 75 years. Deceased came of a sterling pioneer family the members of which settle d at Ilford in the very early days. There deceased, was born, and, wit h his father, he engaged in the business of a carrier long before the ad vent of the railway. TheLeader teams were known far and wide, and righ t up till the end deceased had a soft spot in his heart from good horse. Some 50 years ago he settled in the Piambra district, where, by thrift a nd industry, he made good as a farmer, and Gracie. Right throughout th e district he and his family were held in very highest regard, and his p assing will be deeplydepleted by all classes of the community. A widow, two sons and one daughter are left to mourn, and to the sorrowi ng ones sincere sympathy will be extended. The sons, are Reuben and Alfr ed, while Mrs J Potter, of Mendooran, is a daughter. The following siste rs survive: Mrs Richardson(Baradine), Mrs A Fraser (Epping), and Misse s A and E Leader (Katoomba). The funeral, which was very largely attended, took place in Binnaway (Gi lgandra Weekly and Castlereagh, Thursday, 6 July 1939, p. 3). DEATHS Mr. Reuben Leader A FINE character passed away at Mendooran on Saturday in the person of Mr. Reuben Leader, of 'Ringwood,' Piambra, aged 75 years. McCully and son Keith, of Mudgee, were among those present at the graveside (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Monday 26 June 1939, p. 2). |
