OLDFIELD. - In loving remembrance of our dearly-beloved son, JOHN OLDFIELD, who departed this life on December 12th, 1898, aged 12 years. Angel son thou has left us - Left a world of pain and care, Gone to Heaven to be an angel And a crown of glory wear. Darling, mild and gentle, Pure and lovely as the flowers, Thus from earth has early faded But to bloom in Eden's bowers. The gentle voice now is hushed, Thy warm, true heart now is still, And on thy young and innocent brow Is resting death's cold chill; Thy hands are closed upon thy breast, We kissed thy lovely brow, And in our aching hearts we know We miss our dear one now. [Inserted by his loving parents, ROBERT and AGNES OLDFIELD.] (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Friday 5 January 1900, page 10).

Death

Death at Tunnabutta The death occurred on Sunday of Miss Sara Oldfield, which took place at the residence of her father, Mr. Robert Oldfield. The deceased young lady had been an invalid for some considerable time owing to an attack of paralysis, and the best of medical aid had failed to restore her to health. She was a great sufferer and with no prospect of recovery death to her may be regarded as a happy relief. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 2 September 1901, p. 2. Sarah Oldfield Death

A Pioneer Passes. LATE ROBERT OLDFIELD. Robert Oldfield, who died in Mudgee on Thursday last, aged 76 years, was one of the sturdy pioneers who helped materially in the advancement of this district. Born at Richmond, he came to Mudgee with his parents when quite young, and afterwards settled at Cudgegong, where he followed farming pursuits for about half a century. Like so many of the pioneers he dearly loved a political fight, and was always foremost in the fray when Free Traders and Protectionists clashed. He espoused the former cause, and later followed his champions into the Liberal camp. A sport to the finger tips, one of his favorite pastimes was angling, and his big hands are still talked of where fishermen congregate. 'Bob' as he was familiarly known to his many friends, first showed signs of failing health a couple of years ago, and although he rallied at different periods the ailment from which he suffered gradually sapped his strength, the end coming as stated. Deceased is survived by a sorrowing widow and the following sons and daughters: W. Oldfield (Ashfield), G. Oldfield (Mudgee), Mesdames S. C. Glasson (Sydney), E. C. Parker (Bankstown), and T. Rayner (Tunnabutta). The brothers and sisters left to mourn are Messrs. J. C. Oldfield (Stony Pinch), D. H. Oldfield (Coonamble), Mesdames C. Perram and H. Milton (Cudgegong), J. Besant (Ilford), and J. Murray (Tabrabucca). To all the sorrowing ones we extend our deepest sympathy. The funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the Cudgegong cemetery, the last sad rites at the graveside being conducted by the Rev. W. V. Thomson, of Rylstone. Obituary

MRS. A. A. OLDFIELD. By the death at the ripe age of 76 years of the late Mrs. Agnes A. Oldfield, late of Tunnabutta, relict of the late Mr. Robert Oldfield, there has passed yet another link with the early days. Not only has her family lost a loving mother, but the many friends she possessed have lost one, around whom there were many cherished memories. Mrs. Oldfield, though of a retiring disposition, was loved and respected by all who had the good fortune to know her. She was one of the pioneers. The whole of her married life was spent at Tunnabutta, where, with her late husband she had labored in the building up of a fine old homestead. At the time of her death she was visiting her youngest daughter, Mrs. E. Parker, at Bankstown. Though never really robust, her health was much as usual until three weeks before her death, when she contracted a cold, which was followed by bronchial trouble and led to her end. There are two sons and three daughters left to mourn: William (Sydney), Glos (Mudgee), Mrs. Glasson (Sydney), Mrs. T. Rayner (Lithgow), and Mrs. E. Parker (Bankstown). Before leaving St. John's Church, the Rev. Mr. Walker conducted an impressive service, and at Cudgegong performed the last sad rites at the graveside. A large number of friends joined the funeral cortege between Mudgee and Cudgegong, where so many of the relatives reside. Mr. C. Swords conducted the funeral arrangements.
