Note: In Memoriam

In Memoriam HEXTELL - In sad but loving memory our dear father who departed this life 17th July, 1928, aged 74 years, ‘Could we have been there at the hour of your death, To have caught the last sight of your fleeting breath, Your last faint whisper we might have heard, And breathed In your ear one loving word. Only those who have suffered are able to tell The pain at the heart of not saying farewell.’ Inserted by his sorrowing daughter and son-in-law (Leila and Walter Pitt) - Cudgegong.

HEXTELL - In loving remembrance of our dearly beloved husband and father, Joseph Hextell, who departed this life 17th July, 1928, aged 74 years. ‘We who loved you sadly miss you, Though we know that God knew best, When he eased your pain and sufferings, And he laid you down to rest. Note: SOCIAL EVENING AND PRESENTATION

SOCIAL EVENING AND PRESENTATION A large number of friends of Mr. and Mrs. George Hextell and Miss Eunice Hextell met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Woodward, in Rogers street, Kandos, on Monday night to say farewell and also present a token of the esteem In which their guests are held among their friends In Kandos. Mr. and Mrs. Hextell have lived in Kandos for about 12 years and during that time have been always among the first to render any assistance within their power to those in need. To the Methodist Church they will be a great loss as will be Miss Hextell, who has for a considerable time acted as Organist there. Mr. Hexlell, during his residence in the town, tcok up many kinds of sport, cricket and golf being his favorites. Mrs. Hextell was a great worker for the Hospital as well as for her Church. Miss Hextell was a favorite with all. The evening passed very quickly, dancing being held on a very spacious verandah and games in the parlour. Miss Prior, who took charge of this department, excelled herself. Mr. Steve O'Brien, in his usual faultless manner, supplied the music. A feature of the evening was a recitation by dear old Grannie Evans who, although having passed her 86th milestone, recited in faultless manner and without a break the dangers from heartless swains of the young maidens in the good old days. Mr. W. Clarice spoke on behalf of the members of the Methodist Church, after which Mr. J. B. Simpkins made the presentation to Mr. and Mrs. Hextell, Mrs. Robbins, on behalf of the Kandos Methodist Church Girls’ Comrades, presented Miss Hextall with a token of their love and esteem. The evening concluded by all joining in and singing 'For They Are Jolly Good Fellows’ followed by ‘Auld Lang Syne.’ Mudgee Guardian, Monday 14 March 1932, p. 6. Farewell George Hextell

WEDDING Sloss - Hextell OF wide country interest was the wedding of Miss Eunice Hextell, which was celebrated at the Leigh Memorial Methodist Church, Parramatta, on Saturday, February 16. The bride is the only child of Mr. and Mrs. George Hextell, of Liverpool, formerly of Kandos, and the bridegroom Mr. John Clements Sloss, third son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Sloss, of Charton. The bride, who was given away by her father, chose a close-fitting frock of magnolia satin, with a fan-shaped train with inlets of lace. Her beautiful old veil of real Brussels net, loaned by Miss S. Cafe, of Rylstone, was held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms. She carried a sheaf of tiger lilies, frangipani and Cecil Brunner roses. Lovely frocks of pink and of ice blue windswept crepe cut on the cross were worn by the bridesmaids, Miss Evelyn Woolley, of Mudgee, friend of the bride, and Miss Jean Sloss, sister of the bridegroom. Small black hats turned up at the back, black shoes and long black lace gloves completed their ensembles. They each carried a sheaf of pink gladioli and carnations. The best man was Mr. Sutherland Sloss, bRother of the bridegroom, and Mr. Paul Hextell, of Bathurst, cousin of the bride, was groomsman. The Rev. J. H. Somerville performed the ceremony and Mrs. Greville, friend of the bride, officiated at the organ. During the signing of the register Mr. Ivan Laing sang "Because." At the reception at "The Caraleon", Parramatta, the bride's mother, wearing a black and white ensemble and carrying a Victorian posy of mauve and white asters received the guests, assisted by the bridegrooms mother, who chose a black ensemble and carried pale pink rosebuds The bridegroom, having accepted a position in Papua, sailed by the S.S.
