DEATH OF MRS. HARDWICK.

Quite a gloom was cast over the community of Rylstone on Friday last, when the news was received that Mrs. Rebecca Hardwick, relict of the late John William Hardwick, had passed away on Thursday night, at her daughter's home at Haberfield, after a lingering illness which had afflicted her for two years. Mrs. Hardwick, who was 74 years of age at the time of her death, was a native of Hampshire, England. She came to Australia with her parents when a child, and has been a resident of Rylstone for over 50 years. The bereaved relatives include five sons and two widowed daughters, namely, - Messrs George Hardwick (Rylstone), E. F. Hardwick (Sydney), W. B. Hardwick (at present on a voyage to England), Harold Hardwick (Mudgee), Reginald Hardwick (Sydney), Mrs. White (Haberfield), and Mrs. James. The funeral services were conducted at the Rylstone cemetery yesterday afternoon by Rev. J. B. Penman, of Mudgee, in the presence of a large concourse, and a panegyric of the late Mrs. Hardwick was preached by the Rev. Penman in the Rylstone Methodist Church last evening. Note: Death at Rylstone.

Death at Rylstone. Mr. George Hardwick. Quite a shock was caused to the people of Rylstone and Mudgee when it became known that Mr. George White Hardwick had passed away. The deceased, who had suffered with heart trouble for about two years, recently went to his son's place (Mr. Arthur Hardwick, C.P.S. at Campbelltown) to recuperate. Little improvement came from the change and Mr. Hardwick decided to enter Dr. Murray Oram's private hospital at Darlinghurst (Dr. Murray Oram, we might mention, was an old college chum of Mr. Hardwick). The deceased was an inmate of the hospital for about two weeks, and he passed away on Tuesday afternoon. His age was 57 years. He leaves a widow and three sons - Arthur, C.P.S. Campbelltown; Aubrey, Justice Department, Sydney, and Jack, who is with a shipping office - and two daughters - Emily and Marion - to mourn. He was a ber of Messrs. Harold Hardwick (architect, Mudgee), Edward (Stanmore), William (Government architect Perth), and Reginald (P.O., Walcha). Mrs. Hardwick's maiden name was Miss Jane Harris, of Rylstone. The deceased, who was a native of Rylstone, he being a son of the late Mr. J. W. Hardwick, was very popular and held a high position in all affairs at Rylstone. He made many friends, and was looked upon with respect by all who knew him. For many years he conducted a butchery and auctioneering business at Rylstone, but of late he only conducted the latter business. As a businessman he was very successful, and the auctioneering name of G. W. Hardwick was well-known in the west. By his demise Rylstone has lost one of its foremost citizens. The deceased also was a keen sportsman. The funeral took place at Rylstone today. To the bereaved ones we extend our deepest sympathy (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 19 November 1914, page 26).

OLD CITIZEN PASSES

LATE MR. H. R. HARDWICK Town's Great Loss BY the widely lamented death on Thursday evening of Mr. Harold Robert Hardwick, at the age of 68, Mudgee has lost one of its oldest and most well known citizens. The cause of profound regret throughout the Mudgee district. Mr. Hardwick's death followed a long period of ill health. He had been confined to his spacious home in Lewis street for about two weeks owing to heart trouble, an illness about six or eight months ago having had a very adverse effect on his general condition. He passed away in his sleep shortly after 6 o'clock in the evening. Mr. Hardwick was born in Rylstone and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John William Harwick. His father, who was born in Leeds (England) was a well known store-keeper in Rylstone. Coming to Mudgee about 40 years ago. Mr. Hardwick soon established an enviable reputation as an architect, and, in 1898, married his now sorrowing widow, Miss Adele Florence Wells, a member of a very well known local family. Mr. Hardwick lived for the last 40 years in Mudgee, establishing a widespread fame as an architect and popularity as a man. Both his excellent architectural work and his many fine qualities as a man and a citizen were known to a vast army of people for many miles around Mudgee, his work having taken him a considerable distance from this town, and even as far north-west as Coonabarabran. In Mudgee Mr. Hardwick was respected as a fine type of public spirited citizen, an honorable and upright businessman and kind and courteous gentleman. He was formerly an alderman of the local municipal council, and, at the time of his death was a prominent Mason, and one of the staunchest supporters. of the Methodist Church. The following children survive: Mrs Norman Frewin (Dorrigo), George (Kogarah), William (Grafton), and Adele (Mudgee). One son, Charles, died in babyhood. To the sorrowing relations and friends the "Guardian" extends its deepest sympathies. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 3 June 1935, p. 1. Harold Robert Hardwick Obituary
