Death of a husband | Charles Griffith Perram 1 October 1915 (aged 62 years) Obituary Death. Mr. C. G. Perram. Death has claimed another of our well-known and highly-respected district residents, in the person of Mr. Charles Griffith Perram, after a brief illness arising from the bursting of a blood vessel in the head. The deceased was 71 years of age. He was a native of Rylstone, whither his parents came to reside amongst the early settlers. He was a man of fine physique and robust constitution. Except for the few years spent in Queensland when a young man, the deceased had resided in the district all his life, and was much respected. His wife survives, and with her family of six sons and three daughters mourn the great loss of an exemplary husband and father. The daughters are Mrs. H. Sheppard (Cudgegong), Mrs. R. J. Doherty (Queanbeyan), and Miss Perram (of the Public Instruction service). The sons are Messrs. J. C. Perram (Balmoral, near Stony Pinch), R. H. Perram (Dunedoo), D. J. Perram (Randwick, and the younger brothers, V. A., and Carl, residing with their mother. The sixth son is Corporal Thomas Malcolm Perram, of the Public Instruction Department, who recently enlisted for the front. The funeral took place on Sunday last in the Anglican portion of the Cudgegong cemetery, where, too, lie the remains of the father and mother, and other members of the original family. Death of a brother | Robert Oldfield 3 December 1925 (aged 72 years) A Pioneer Passes. LATE ROBERT OLDFIELD. Robert Oldfield, who died in Mudgee on Thursday last, aged 76 years, was one of the sturdy pioneers who helped materially in the advancement of this district. Born at Richmond, he came to Mudgee with his parents when quite young, and afterwards settled at Cudgegong, where he followed farming pursuits for about half a century. Like so many of the pioneers he dearly loved a political fight, and was always foremost in the fray when Free Traders and Protectionists clashed. He espoused the former cause, and later followed his champions into the Liberal camp. A sport to the finger tips, one of his favorite pastimes was angling, and his big hands are still talked of where fishermen congregate. 'Bob' as he was familiarly known to his many friends, first showed signs of failing health a couple of years ago, and although he rallied at different periods the ailment from which he suffered gradually sapped his strength, the end coming as stated. Deceased is survived by a sorrowing widow and the following sons and daughters: W. Oldfield (Ashfield), G. Oldfield (Mudgee), Mesdames S. C. Glasson (Sydney), E. C. Parker (Bankstown), and T. Rayner (Tunnabutta). The brothers and sisters left to mourn are Messrs. J. C. Oldfield (Stony Pinch), D. H. Oldfield (Coonamble), Mesdames C. Perram and H. Milton (Cudgegong), J. Besant (Ilford), and J. Murray (Tabrabucca). To all the sorrowing ones we extend our deepest sympathy. The funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the Cudgegong cemetery, the last sad rites at the graveside being conducted by the Rev. W. V. Thomson, of Rylstone. Death of a brother | James Charles Oldfield 24 May 1927 (aged 74 years) Late J. C. Oldfield ESTEEMED DISTRICT IDENTITY. The death of Mr. James Charles Oldfield, of Stony Pinch, which occurred in a private hospital in Mudgee on Tuesday last, after an illness extending over several weeks, is sincerely regretted by all classes of the community. He was 61 years at the end. Deceased, who resided in the Mudgee district practically all his life, was a man of sterling character, whose word was his bond. Many years ago he acquired land in the vicinity of Stony Pinch, and, being industrious to a degree, he gradually increased his holding, which was stocked with sheep of sound breeding. Some years ago he decided to contest a seat on the Pastures Protection Board, and the great support he received from stock-owners throughout the district was ample evidence of the high regard in which he was held. With his colleagues on the Board he was extremely popular, and his opinions were always respected. A generous neighbor and firm friend, he naturally attracted and held the affection and esteem of all with whom he came into close contact and his demise will be generally regretted. The remains were conveyed to his home at Stony Pinch on Wednesday by Mr. J. C. Swords, funeral director, and were laid to rest in the Church of England portion of the Cudgegong cemetery on Thursday morning, the Rev. W. B. Thomson, of Rylstone, performing the last sad rites at the graveside. The funeral was one of the largest and most representative ever seen in the district, friends from all surrounding centres, including Mudgee, being among the mourners. V.W. Bro. E. Hume, Wor. Bro. E. Bartlett, and Bros. C. Clark and W. Perram, of Lodge Edinburgh, St. John, Mudgee with which order deceased had been associated for a considerable period, acted as pall-bearers. The deceased is survived by a widow and the following sons and daughters, to whom we join in extending sympathy: - William James (Manly), Percy Harold (Stony Pinch), Mrs. A. Cox (Limestone), Mrs. T. E. Spratt (Mudgee), Mrs. G. Marks (Mudgee), Mrs. F. R. Lowe (Bylong), and Miss Vera Oldfield (Stony Pinch). Mudgee Guardian, Monday 30 May 1927, p. 2. Obituary James Charles Oldfield |
