Mrs. Chadwick, Running Stream A sad death occurred on Tuesday, 25th August, in the Rylstone District Hospital, of Phyllis Barbara, wife of Claude Chadwick, of Running Stream. Death occurred after an operation. The deepest sympathy of the whole district goes out to the bereaved husband and little son (Billy); also to the deceased lady's mother, Mrs. North (Portland), sisters Elsie (Portland), Audrey (Mrs. E. Hawkins, Mudgee) and bers Charles and George (Portland) and Gilbert (Nullo Mountain). After a service in the Church of England, conducted by the Rev. E. E. Hawkey, the cortege moved off to the Ilford Cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest. The death is felt by all the Running Stream residents, as a little over a week ago the happy little lady was present at a local function and was her usual jolly self, Many beautiful floral tributes showed in what esteem Phyllis was held. The New Zealand Minister to Washington said cooperation between the United Nations was better today than ever, but should go to the maximum, while there should be nothing one Ally should withhold from the other about its strategy. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 27 August 1942, p. 7. Obituary Phyllis Barbara Chadwick

Note: Hannah Herbert

Hannah Herbert The sudden passing of Hannah Herbert on Sunday afternoon in the District Hospital cast a gloom over the town. Deceased, who was 53 years of age, was a loving wife and mother. On Saturday afternoon she was in the garden assisting her husband and seemed to be in great spirit, but later in the day she took a stroke and was rushed to the District Hospital, but never regained consciousness. The late Mrs. Herbert was a lady who lived for her husband and children. She never left her home much, but was well satisfied to know that all was well with her family. The esteem in which this dear soul was held was evinced by the large number of mourners who followed the cortege to the Ilford Cemetery on Tuesday. After a service in the Kandos Church of England, conducted by Rev. E. Hawkey, the wreath-laden casket was taken to its last resting place. The last sad rites at the graveside were performed by Rev. E. Hawkey. To the sorrowing husband, three daughters and two sons we extend our heartfelt sympathy. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 30 September 1943, p. 7. Obituary Hannah Herbert
