Mr. Caldwell had the unusual pleasure of uniting in wedlock two bRothers to two sisters. The bridegrooms were Messrs. George and James N. Phelps and the charming brides were Misses Martha and Alice Harris, the third and second daughters of Mr. William Harris, an old and esteemed resident of Ilford, who, on Thursday next, will be entertained at a public dinner, prior to his leaving the district for his future home on the Namoi. The church was beautifully decorated with flowers and evergreens, and after the ceremony a large company sat down to the wedding breakfast at Mr. Harris's when long life and unalloyed happiness to the doubly united happy pairs was enthusiastically toasted. According to the Independent, the event, despite the day being wet, created a stir in Ilford, especially amongst the Ilford roses, woo bloom so charmingly at all seasons (Evening News, Wednesday 3 April 1878, p. 2). |
