Death of Old Resident. MR. LUKE JAMES JONES. The death of Mr. Luke James Jones occurred suddenly at his residence, Robertson Park, Mudgee, on Saturday afternoon, about 1.30 p.m. Mr Jones was one of Mudgee's most highly respected and esteemed residents. He was 71 years and 11 months old. The deceased, who had been in the best of health, was taken suddenly ill on Saturday. Although his condition was not at first considered serious, he gradually became seriously ill, and passed away as above stated. The deceased was born at Reedy Creek, Crowie, and came to the Mudgee district about fifty years ago. For many years he farmed and drove a team at Cooyal and Pipeclay. Some seven years ago he came to reside in the town of Mudgee, where he lived right up to the time of his unexpected death. His first wife died about 37 years ago. He afterwards married Mrs. George Turvey, of Rylstone, who survives him, as also do the following children: Luke (Mudgee), William (Queensland), Mrs. F. Brown (Rylstone) and Mrs. D. Wakeling (South Coast), also the following step-children: James Turvey (Sydney), Frederick Turvey (Sydney), and P. Turvey (Fletcher's Forest). He is also survived by a number of grandchildren. The funeral left the deceased's late residence on Monday morning last. The remains were interred in the Church of England portion of the General Cemetery. The Rev. Canon Dunstan officiated at the graveside. Mr J. C. He immediately left by sulky, and arrived in Mudgee about 1 a.m. on Sunday. The news of Mr. Jones' death was a painful shock to the large circle of his friends in the Mudgee and adjoining districts. He is survived by a sorrowing widow, one son, and two daughters, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. The funeral will take place at Lue on Wednesday. Messrs.
