Death of a mother | Adelaide D Lawrence 24 December 1913 (aged 5 years) Old Pioneer Gone. All Cudgegong and neighborhood for miles round was shocked to hear of the death on Wednesday, December 24, of Mrs. William Readford. The deceased was found fully dressed lying on a couch at the rear of the old home at Cudgegong. With one hand across, her head pillowed on her left arm, she seemed to have passed away as though in sleep. Not having had occasion to see a medical man previously, it was deemed advisable, on the case being reported to Mr. J. M. McDonald, Coroner at Rylstone, to hold an inquiry, and upon same authority Dr. Hansard, of Rylstone, made an autopsy, which revealed that death was due to heart disease and a large clot of blood obstructing the main passage of the heart. The patient before death would have had her case diagnosed serious affection, so that there is little wonder the end came as stated. Senior-constable Trebelcock attended to make arrangements for the inquiry. The deceased, who was 87 (sic) years of age leaves a husband and three young children to mourn. The late Mrs. Readford was a native of Mudgee, a daughter of the late Mr. Lawrence, who was a Londoner, imported among many others to be of the early typographical staff of the "S. M. Herald," and later installed by the late G. H. Cox as principal of the "Western Post." Frederick Lawrence was also secretary to the Agricultural Society. - Rylstone "Express."
