The Late Mr. A. E. Ellis Mr. Alfred Edwin Ellis, late chairman of directors of A. E. Ellis, Ltd., timber merchants, who died last week, was born in England, and came to Australia with his parents at the age of 3. They crossed the mountains on horse back to the Wattle Flat goldfields. Early in life Mr. Ellis took up commercial pursuits, and 40 years ago started in business, first at Coopernook, then saw-milling at Camden Haven, and later at Nambucca and Bellingen. Sixteen years ago he came to Sydney, establishing the Pyrmont firm of. A. and E. Ellis, Ltd (Sunday Times, Sunday 15 August 1920, page 2).
