Death of a mother | Helen Dewey 4 November 1936 (aged 53 years) MRS. HELEN SHERIDAN, RYLSTONE. On November 4, the death occurred of Mrs. Helen Sheridan, at the residence of her daughter, Miss I. Sheridan, Louee street, Rylstone, at the age of 81 years. Her many acts of kindness, together with her charitable disposition, endeared her to a wide circle of friends. She was one of the early pioneers of the district, being the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dewey, of 'Growee,' Rylstone. She married the late Thomas Sheridan, and reared a family of two sons and four daughters. One daughter, Sister M. Romanus, predeceased her by four months. Her surviving children are: Thomas (Lue), William (Queensland), Ivy (Rylstone), Mrs. Henderson (Cronulla), Mrs. O'Halloran (Glenbrook). She was an exemplary Catholic, and was attended in her last moments by Fathers Ring and Barrow of Kandos. The funeral, which was very largely attended, left St. Malachi's Church, Rylstone, for the cemetery, the Rev. Father Ring officiating at the graveside (Catholic Freeman's Journal, Thursday 17 December 1936, page 36). OBITUARY. MRS. Ellen Sheridan, relict of the late Thomas Sheridan, passed away at her residence, Rylstone, on Wednesday morning, November 4th, aged 82 years. Deceased was formerly a Miss Dewey, and married Mr. Thos. Sheridan, a widower with three children, residing at 'Eastwood,' a holding between Lue and Rylstone (now occupied by Mr. Tom Sheridan, son) for many years, and after her husband retired from grazing, the pair came into town to live. To the union two sons and four daughters were born. The remains were interred in the R.C. portion of the local cemetery, after a service in the Church on Thursday after noon, many relatives and friends of the family being in attendance (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Monday 9 November 1936, page 5). |
