Death of Henry Dewey, Senior. Another good old man was buried last Friday, in Mr. Henry Dewey, senior, of Growee, Rylstone. He was well known in pastoral circles as a good, honest, earnest man, and he passed away last week at the age of 73, full of years and honors. Note: Going to Queensland

Going to Queensland Lue Resident Honored. A number of the residents of Lue and the surrounding district met at the residence of Mrs. Fenton, 'Pyangle,' on Saturday evening, January 4, in order to present Mr. W. J. Sheridan with a token on the eve of his departure for Queensland, where he intends making his future home, he having been successful in drawing a block of land in the neighborhood of Goondiwindi. Mr. W. Ryan was voted to the chair. After reading a number of apologies from different people, sending their congratulations and regretting their being unable to be present, the chairman proposed 'The Health of the King,' which was duly honored. He then proposed the toast of 'Our Guest.' In doing so he said that when it became known that Mr. Sheridan, was about to take his departure from amongst them, the public at large took the opportunity of showing their appreciation and esteem for Mr. Sheridan. So it was resolved to present him with a slight memento, in the shape of a silver shaving mug and brush. He (the speaker) wished Mr. Sheridan health, wealth, and prosperity in the future, and hoped that he would live to acquire a prosperous and profitable homestead, coupled with a good wife and large family. The toast was supported by Messrs. K Batten, McDonald, Wilton, J. Batten, Clarke, Gaffney. A. Batten, and several others, and was drunk with musical honors. Mr. Sheridan, on rising to reply, was received with enthusiasm. He said he was taken very much by surprise. He never thought for one moment that such a movement was afoot. He thanked them very much for the very nice things they had said about him, and he assured them that he would always prize their beautiful present. (Applause.) Mr. Sheridan then proposed 'The Ladies,' which was duly honored, and responded to by Mr. Gaffney. After songs and recitations were rendered by Messrs. English, J. Bat ten. J. Walsh, Mrs. Raffan, and others. Mr. J. Batten then proposed 'The Health of Our Chairman,' which was also duly honored. The meeting then closed with the singing of 'Auld Lang Syne.' The young folk then repaired to the ballroom, and tripped it out merrily until midnight. Excellent music was supplied by Misses Hickey and Costigan, Messrs. Wilton, Hickey and English. Too much praise cannot be bestowed upon Mrs. Fenton and family for the manner in which they arranged for the function (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 9 January 1913, page 22).
