DEATH OF MR. LLOYD, SEN. A well-known district pioneer passed to the great unknown on Friday last, in the person of Mr. J. Lloyd, sen. The deceased gentleman is too well known to need any biography here. In life he was a straight, honest as the sun, and in every way a sterling, upright man : his word was his bond, and his honor was a safe-guard against any reproach. John Lloyd, of Coomber, was a household name in the district. The family, 12 in number, I would not be quite sure, have all reached adult stage and are worthy and respected residents. The deceased was an octogenarian and up till a few months ago never knew what ill-health was. But advancing years had at last made themselves felt, and an internal trouble set in, and of such a nature that only an operation could relieve (stone trouble). But the old gentleman refused, preferring to see it out, as he explained it. Up to the last the deceased, though suffering acute pain, kept in good spirits. He paid the last debt of nature on Friday evening, and thus has an honest and highly respected district pioneer gone to his long rest, beloved and reverenced by his family, and mourned by a public with whom he had the closest of friendship. His remains were interred in the Church of England portion of the local cemetery, the Rev. Chivers performing the last sad rites of the Church. A very large concourse followed the hearse - one of the largest ever seen. To the bereaved family, relatives and friends I extend a sincere sympathy in their affliction. Note: DEATH

DEATH Old Resident Passes On BY the passing of Mrs. Emily Lloyd at the District Hospital on Thursday morning the district lost a loved and esteemed resident. The late Mrs. Lloyd had been ailing for a fair while and the end came peacefully - a fitting climax to a life which was lived trying to help others. The deceased was aged 76 years, and was the beloved wife of Mr. John Lloyd, of Westview, Kandos and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Leighton, of Running Stream. The late Mrs. Lloyd was a big-hearted lady, and although not before the public eye, she worked untiringly behind the scenes to assist all patriotic functions. Her generous donations will be missed. The deceased is survived by her husband and five daughters, viz., Mrs. Lofthouse (Coonamble), Mrs. Nott (Lane Cove), Mrs. H. Donnett (Gulargambone), Mrs. G. Asher-Smith (Cremorne Point), Mrs. Russell (Cheltenham), and five sons, Charlie (Coonamble), Oswald (Rylstone), Stan. (A.I.F.), Jack (Kandos), Arnold (Kandos). After a service at St. Lawrence's Church of England, Kandos, the funeral took place to the Rylstone Cemetery. The esteem in which this loving wife and mother was held was evinced by the large number of mourners who followed the cortege. The services at the church and graveside were conducted by the Rev. Father Hawkey. And so another dear soul passes over the Hill - one whom we could ill afford to lose. May she reap the rich reward she so rightly deserves. To the sorrowing husband and family we extend our deepest sympathy. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 12 February 1942, p. 3. Obituary Emily Lloyd
