Mrs King was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Smede, who were among Mudgee's pioneers. Besides seven sons and two daughters she is survived by seven sisters, who are: Mesdames Anderson (Wellington), W. H. Kurtz (Mudgee), A. Keech (Lue), H. Rope (Sydney), Williams (Sydney), Clarke (Sydney), and Miss May Smede (Sydney). Her sons are George (Binnaway), Fred (Cassilis), Arthur (Coonamble), Allan (Dubbo), Jack (Campsie), Harry (Lismore), and Charles (Orange), and two daughters, Mrs. G. Potter (Merriwa) and Mrs. E. Potter (Orange). Mudgee Guardian, Monday 20 February 1939, p. 4. Obituary Harriett Selina King |

Death of a son | James Frederick King 10 June 1946 DEATH Mr. F. King Much sympathy was felt for Mrs. G. King and her daughter, Mrs. N. Houlahan, when the sad news of the passing of Mr. Fred King reached Cassilis. Mr. King was one of the most popular men in the district, and had the respect of all who came in contact with him. The funeral, which took place at the Church of England cemetery on Wednesday afternoon of last week, was one of the largest in Cassilis. The hearse was covered by the most beautiful flowers. Rev. J. A. Smith officiated at the church and graveside, and his words were very true: ''We come into this world with nothing, so we cannot take anything out,” but what a world of good feeling and kind words we leave behind for those to whom we really mattered, and so we trust that, as time is such a great healer, it will heal rapidly the feeling of great sorrow that lies heavily on the sorrowing widow and daughter. Deceased's only son, Max, was accidentally killed in New Guinea about three years ago. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 20 June 1946, p. 20. Obituary Fred King |
