Death of a brother | William Thomas McGowan 27 June 1916 (aged 25 years) Died of Wounds. Mrs. W. J. Proctor, of Mudgee South, received word some days ago from the Base Records Office, as follows: - "Your son, William Thomas McGowan, died from wounds on 27th June." Deceased was 27 years of age and was married to a Miss Brown just prior to enlisting. There were no children. The deceased's father's name was Bernard McGowan. Wounded | 14 September 1916 (aged 25 years) Mudgee Soldiers Wounded. The following local lads, whose names will he found in the Western district casualty list in another column, are amongst the latest of those reported as having been wounded in the fighting in France: - Private Tom Mann, who at the time of his enlistment was a clerk in the Commercial Bank at Mudgee. Private Will. Cohen, son of Mr. Robert James Cohen, of Sydney, formerly of Mudgee, and grandson of Ald. L. Cohen, Mayor of Mudgee. Captain R. V. Single, son of Mr. H. R. Single, "Wandoonah," Wollar, who is seriously ill. Private Whittaker, Windeyer, also seriously ill. Mrs. James Proctor, of Mudgee South, has received word that her son, Private "Barney" McGowan has been wounded. Death | 9 May 1926 (aged 35 years) BERNARD CHARLES McGOWAN It is with deep regret that we record the death of Bernard Charles McGowan under sad circumstances. Deceased was employed in a temporary capacity as cleaner at the Mudgee loco shed and on April 25, he got his foot caught in the turntable and crushed badly. He was conveyed to the Mudgee Hospital, but tetanus supervened and he passed away yesterday morning. Deceased who was only 29 years of age, was a returned soldier and leaves a wife and three young children. He was a son of the late Mr. W. McGowan and Mrs. W. Proctor, of Mudgee South. The funeral will be held this afternoon and will leave deceased's late residence in Inglis St. and will probably be accorded military honors. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 10 May 1926, p. 8.
