Divorce | April 1908 (aged 47 years) Divorce Jurisdiction. Mary Etta Jane Besant, nee McCaulay, sued for a dissolution of her marriage with George William Besant, a teamster. Mr. Manning (instructed by McManamey and Jelf) appeared for the petitioner. There was no appearance of respondent. The issues were marriage, and desertion for three years and upward. Petitioner stated that she was married to respondent at her parents' house Nyngan, on the 9th of June, 1889. There was a son born to them. They lived together till the 20th December, 1893. They had disagreements, but had made them up. On thatdate they had a slight quarrel, and the respondent left her, and she had not seen him since. She had made inquiries, but he did not return, and had not contributed to her support. His Honor found the issues in the affirmative. The court then adjourned till Monday. Death of a sister | Mary Jane Besant 31 May 1938 (aged 77 years) Mrs. Mary Jane Oldfield The death of Mrs. Mary Jane Oldfield, which sad event occurred at her home in Inglis street on Tuesday evening last, came as a great shock to relatives and friends. Although she had been slightly indisposed for a short period, no serious results were an-ticipated, but the fates willed otherwise, and the end came as stated. Deceased, who was 70 years of age, was a kindly, generous soul, and delighted in the performance of good deeds. For a great many years she resided in the Stony Pinch district, where her late husband (Mr. J. C. Oldfield) was held in the very highest esteem by all classes of the community. She reared a family of seven sons and daughters, who reflected the highest possible credit on her and they are among the most worthy residents of our district. To these and other sorrowing ones the "Guardian" extends its deepest sympathy. The funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the Cudgegong cemetery this morning, the remains being laid to rest beside those of her late husband. The Rev. Death of a sister | Rebecca Besant 17 March 1939 (aged 78 years) PERSONAL A number of Kandos residents have suffered bereavements of late. Included in the number are Mr. Stanley Copelin and Mr. Percy Cafe. Mr. Copelin's father died recently at the age of 72, and Mr. Cafe's mother, Mrs. Rebecca Cafe, passed away at her Ilford home in her 84th year (Lithgow Mercury, Thursday 30 March 1939, page 4). Death of a brother | John Besant 24 May 1942 (aged 81 years) Rylstone And Kandos News DEATH JOHN BESANT BY the death of John Besant at the age of 76 in the Rylstone District Hospital on Sunday, the village of Ilford lost a loved and esteemed villager. The deceased had only been ailing for a short time, and was admitted to the hospital on Sundayweek last. He was born at Tara (Ilford) and had lived practically all his life in the village. In the early days, the late John Besant was a teamster and carted wheat and wool in the district. He was predeceased by his wife some years ago. He ismourned by four sons, viz,, Vivian, Robert, Victor and Sydney, and four sisters - Mrs. Oldfield (Ilford). Mrs. Griffin (Granville), Mrs. Turley, sen. (Ilford), Mrs. Williams (Wollongong) - and one ber, George (Clandulla). The funeral waslargely attended, and took place on Tuesday after a service in the Church of England to the Ilford Cemetery. Death | 11 October 1946 (aged 85 years) DEATH. GEORGE WILLIAM BESANT. The death took place at his late residence, Buchanan Street, on Friday last of George William Besant, at the age of 85 years. Deceased was an old resident of this district and held in very high esteem. After a service in St. Lawrence Church of England, conducted by the Rev. Father Hawkey, the remains were interred in the Rylstone General Cemetery on Saturday. To the bereaved we extend our deepest sympathy.
