DEATHS Mrs. Maude C. Smede THE death occurred suddenly yesterday of Mrs. Maude Carrington Smede (28), who lived with her husband (Mr. E. F. Smede) and family of five young children at Buckaroo, Mudgee. The deceased had not been very well, but no serious complications were expected. However, one of her young children noticed that her mother suddenly looked very ill, and ran to a neighbor's place and told her. Upon arrival at the house the unfortunate young woman was found to be dead. The remains were interred in the portion of the Mudgee cemetery yesterday, the Rev. Mr. Powell officiating at the graveside. Messrs. J. C. Swords and Son had charge of the funeral arrangements. (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Monday 29 January 1940, page 2).

DEATHS Mr. E. F. Smede THE death occurred in the Mudgee District Hospital on Saturday morning last of Mr. Edgar Francis Smede, at the age of 61 years. Deceased was well known and highly respected in Mudgee and district. He was a resident of Pipeclay and Havilah districts. His wife predeceased him by eighteen months. To his relatives and his five small children, whose ages range from three to ten years, our deepest sympathy is extended. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon to the Church of England portion of the Mudgee cemetery, the Rev. Powell. officiating at the church and the graveside. DEATHS Mrs. C. Smede The death occurred in the Mudgee Hospital on Friday last of Mrs. Catherine Smede, at the great age of 96 years. Deceased who was one of the oldest identities of the Mudgee district, was a lady of sterling character, and won the love and respect of everyone with whom she came in contact. Like most of the pioneers, she was noted for her great, kindness and charity, and delighted in the performance of good deeds. Her passing will leave a gap in the lives of many people in town and district. To the sorrowing family the deepest sympathy will be extended. The funeral, which was attended by many old friends of the family, took place to the Church of England portion of the general cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the Rev. Canon Powell officiating. Death Notice MR. N. D. SMEDE The death occurred of Neville David Smede aged 25 years on May 3 in the Mudgee District Hospital. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Smede of Cooyal and had resided with his aunt, Mrs. B. Robison of Lewis Street, Mudgee. He is survived by two bers Douglas and Clem of Mudgee and two sisters, Marie (Mrs. Colin Flynn of Mudgee), and Alice (Mrs. Ladmore, Coolah). The funeral will take place today (Wednesday) from the Church of England, Mudgee for the Mudgee Cemetery. Obituary Notice: Clement Francis Smede A railway man all his life, Clement Francis Smede, 54, of Panania but originally from Mudgee and Wollar, died while at work on April 6. Mr Smede worked for many years on the railway in Mudgee. For the past 13 years, he was employed as an electric train driver at the East Hills and Liverpool Depots. Beloved husband of Thelma and father and father-in-law of Sandra and John Sainsbury, Cheryl and Chris McPhail, Linda and Steve McCullough, youngest daughter, Veronica and only son, Shane. Also beloved grandfather of Guy, Brendan, Jamie and Kathleen. Mr. Smede will be sadly missed by all who know him. At his funeral, railway work mates formed a Guard of Honour at the church gates.
