Death of a maternal grandfather | James Imber 24 February 1928 Passing of a Pioneer MR J. IMBER DEAD. One of the fine old pioneers who were so closely associated with the district's progress passed to his long home on Friday. We refer to Mr James Imber, who, taking ill a few days previously, was conveyed to the local hospital, where he died as stated, a severe attack of gastritis being responsible for his unexpected ending. Deceased, who was 82 years of age, resided in the district practically all his life, and right up till the sudden seizure enjoyed robust health. He was a great sporting character, and his stories of the cricket battles of the very early days were a rare treat for those interested in the game of games. He was a familiar figure at all matches played in Mudgee, and his interest was an object lesson to the younger generation. He will be missed, mot only by cricket followers, but by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. He is survived by a widow and the following sons and daughters, to whom we extend sincere sympathy: Leslie (Mudgee), Sidney and Albert (Coolah), William and Jack (Sydney), and Mesdames B. Reed, Potter, Levy, and Grant (Sydney). The funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the local cemetery, Mr J. C. Swords being in charge of the arrangements. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 27 February 1928, p. 9. Obituary, James Imber |
