Mr. and Mrs. David Leighton, of "Yetman" Bylong, and of Denison Street, Mudgee, have received the sad intelligence of the death from wounds, on July 11, of their son, Corporal Allan David Leighton, of the 1st Batallion. Corporal Leighton has been at the front for some time, while another son is also in the firing line. Death of a maternal grandmother | Catherine Davis 26 May 1920 (aged 26 years) Death. CATHERINE MEAD. The death occurred at her daughter's residence, Mrs. D. Leighton, Denison-street, Mudgee, yesterday afternoon of Catherine Mead, of Bylong, aged 81 years. The deceased had been spending a holiday with her daughter, and took bad on Friday last. She was a very old and highly respected resident of Bylong, where she had resided for a great number of years. She is survived by the following children : - Mesdames D. Leighton (Mudgee), W. Fitzpatrick (Sydney), T. Delforce (Merriwa), Chiddy (Bylong), Misses Alice (Sydney), Effie (Bylong), Ada (Bylong) and Messrs. John (Bow Forest, Merriwa), Elijah (Bylong) and William (Bylong). The remains were taken to Bylong per car this morning, and were interred in the Bylong Cemetery this afternoon. Mr. H. Note | Wedding LEIGHTON - FREEBURN. The wedding was solemnised at St. John's Church of England yesterday afternoon, by the Rev. Canon Dunstan, of Mr. Osmond John Leighton, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. David Leighton, of Bylong and Mudgee and Miss Pauline Maude Freeburn, onlydaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Freeburn, of Lue. The bride was given away by her bother. Mr. W. Taylor, of Breakfast Creek, was best man, and Miss Leighton, sister of the bridegroom, was bridesmaid. After he ceremony there was an adjournmentto Miss Conn's refreshment room, where the wedding breakfast was served. Canon Dunstan presided. The wedding cake was made by Mr. L. McLachlan, of Rylstone. Its beautiful design and excellent finish reflect great credit on Mr. L McLachlan, andhis staff. Mr. and Mrs. Leighton left by the evening train for Katoomba, where the honeymoon is being spent, after which they will return to Bylong (Mudgee Guardian and North Western Representative Thursday 15 April 1920, p. 16) |
