Death of a brother | Alfred Charles Robbins 1915 (aged 23 years) LATE SIGNALLER. ROBBINS. The late Signaller Alfred C. Robbins, of Rylstone, who enlisted from that town, was wounded at the Dardanelles in the first landing, and was removed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a week later. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Robbins. of Rylstone, and a ber to Mrs. H. Goodger, of Cullenbone, and Mrs. G. Kilcran, of Mudgee. He would have been 35 years of age on the 6th of this month (October). Prior to enlisting he followed the occupation of a farmer and grazier on his own property. Four bers of deceased have enlisted. They have passed the doctor, and by now should be on their way to the front. Their names are: Private H. Robbins, Private P. J. Robbins, Signaller S. G. Robbins. and Private B. R. Robbins. W. E. Robbins also enlisted (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Monday 11 October 1915, page 2). DEATH OF MR . ALF. ROBBINS. Word came to Rylstone on Saturday night that Mr. Alf. Robbins, second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Robbins, had died from the wounds he received. The sad news has caused much regret. The deceased soldier was a brave, fearless fellow, who, like many thousands of our brave lads, have given up their lives for their country. He had been through the Boer war, and when the present conflict broke out he was amongst the first to volunteer. He is the first district soldier that has been killed in the present war (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 24 June 1915, page 25). |
