Mr. W. T. Pitt Mr William Thomas Pitt 82 passed away at his Denison street residence on Friday after a period of ill health. The late Mr Pitt was born at Cudgegong, where he spent the early part of his life. For most of his life, however, he had resided at Mullamuddy. He had been living in Mudgee during the last few years. He was one of the most highly esteemed men in the Mudgee district, and his death will be the cause of widespread regret. A wife and a grown-up family survive. The funeral was held on Saturday morning after Canon Walker had conducted a service at St. John's Church of England, at which he paid a tribute to Mrs and the late Mr Pitt, who had been married 55 years. Canon Walker also officiated at the Mudgee Cemetery, where the burial was carried out by Messrs J. C. Swords and Son (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Monday 28 June 1937, p. 3).

OBITUARY MR. A. BASSINGTHWAIGHTE Mr. A. Bassingthwaite, a former resident of Braidwood and Crookwell, died in the Mudgee District Hospital at the age of 72 years. He had been a patient at the institution for 4½ months. He leaves a widow, two sons, Norman (Crookwell) and Victor (Mudgee) and four daughters, Mrs. Pitt (Mudgee), Mrs. Haighe (Lakemba), Mrs. H. Doble (Punchbowl), Mrs. J. Rayner (Belmore). He is survived also by 18 grandchildren (Goulburn Evening Penny Post, Friday 3 September 1937, page 4).

MRS. A. BASSINGTHWAIGHTE On 20th November Mrs. Amy Baselngthwalghte passed away in the Mudgee Hospital. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Brooks, she was born at 'Brookvale,' Marlowe, 82 years ago. She married the late Mr. Albert Bassingthwaighte, of Larbert, residing at Bombay for some time and then going to Crookwell and finally to Mudgee. Four daughters and two sons survive (Braidwood Dispatch and Mining Journal, Friday 10 December 1948, page 2).

Mainly ABout People MUDGEE DISTRICT PERSONALITIES A very old and respected identity of the Cullenbone district, in the person of Mrs. Amy Matilda Bassingthwaighte, died in the Mudgee Hospital this morning at the advanced age of 82 years. One of the grand old pioneer type, deceased possessed many admirable qualities which endeared her to all classes of the community, and her passing will bring sadness to many homes. She is survived by two sons and five daughters, to whom deep sympathy is extended. The funeral will take place on Friday afternoon to the Church of England portion of the Mudgee cemetery. DEATH MR. W. J. PITT Deep regret was expressed right throughout the district on Thursday when it was learned that Mr. William James Pitt, of Millsville, had passed away in Sydney. Deceased who was 62 years of age had resided in the district for a lifetime, and was a successful farmer and grazier. He was a man of very high character, and commanded the esteem of all classes of the community. It was his aim in life to act honestly towards his fellow man and it can be said with perfect truth that his word was his bond. He is survived by a widow and family of sons and daughters, to whom deep sympathy is extended. The remains were brought to Mudgee on Friday and the funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the general cemetery in the afternoon the Rev. Canon Powell officiating. The arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Eastaugh and Carroll (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Monday 30 October 1950, page 4).

Obituary M. E. Pitt The death occurred at Pioneer House on the 11th March, 1972 of Margery Ernestine Pitt, wife of the late William James Pitt, of Millsville. Born at Braidwood, she came to Mudgee with her parents Albert and Amy Bassingthwaighte and reared a family of six. Laurine (Mrs. Warburton, Gladesville), Keith (Millsville), Reginald (Mudgee), Ella, (Mrs. Hayward, Springwood), Geoffrey (Mudgee, Delma (Mrs. Poole, Rylstone). There are twenty grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was a sister to Lyla (Mrs. Jack Rayner, The Entrance), Hazel (Mrs. Haigh, Wiley Park), and Victor Bassingthwaighte, Mudgee. After a service in the Church of England conducted by Rev. A. Reeder, her funeral left for the Mudgee Cemetery on the 13th March. Obituary Reginald Albert Pitt The death occurred at his home at 77 Horatio Street, Mudgee on October 30, of Reginald Albert Pitt, 67, following a long illness. Born at Mudgee, Mr Pitt spent his formative years in the Millsville area where his parents had a farm. He attended Mullamuddy School and farmed at Millsville until the Second World War when he joined the A.I.F. and served in New Guinea. Mr Pitt married Lorna in 1952 and they took up residence at 77 Horatio Street, Mudgee. The couple had three children, Janette (Mrs J Lewis) of Collarenebri, Merrilyn of Mudgee and Malcolm of Mudgee. Mr Pitt continued farming for a while and then worked for the Cudgegong Shire until his retirement. In his later life he developed an interest in apiary, bee-keeping becoming a favourite hobby. He was also a keen racegoer and often went to the races at Mudgee, Gulgong, Wellington, Dubbo and other Central West centres. Mr Pitt is survived by his wife and three children as well as sisters, Laurine (Mrs Doherty) of Bocoble, Ella (Mrs Haywood) of Penrith, and Delma (Mrs Poole) of Rylstone and his two bers, Keith of Millsville and Geoff of Mudgee.
