Death of a paternal grandfather | Samuel Parkins 14 September 1931 (aged 14 years) DEATH MR PARKINS, SENR. It is with extreme regret, we announce the death of Mr Parkins, Senr., of Breakfast Creek, who passed away at his son-in-law's residence on Monday morning, after taking a paralytic stroke. Deceased had reached the ripe old age of 83 years, the majority of which had been spent in this district, where he was very well and popularly known. Mr Parkins, although he had long passed the allotted span of three score years and ten, preserved his faculties right up till the day of his death, and could read the paper without the aid of glasses. He had a wonderful memory, and could tell some startling tales of the early days. He leaves a grown-up family to mourn their loss, amongst them being Mr Sam Parkins, Mrs W. Monks, and Mrs W.Freeburn, the latter's home being where the deceased resided at the time of his demise. (Mudgee Guardian and North Western Representative Thursday 17 September 1931, p. 14) |
Death of a father | George Parkins 26 April 1953 (aged 36 years) Gulgong District Hospital, Gulgong, New South Wales, Australia Latitude: S32.367063 Longitude: E149.521886Google Maps™Bing Maps™OpenStreetMap™ DEATH MR. GEORGE PARKINS By the death in Gulgong District Hospital on April 26, of Mr. George Parkins, aged 65 years, of 'Bernam,' Goodiman Gap, the district has lost a fine, honourable man. Born at Budgee Budgee, where he attended school, deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Parkins. Some 40 years ago he took up share farming with the late Mr. Jim Crossing at 'Oakey Camp,' Spicer's Creek, later acquiring 'Bernam' from the late Mr. Tom Talbot and also selecting another area in that region, where he carried on farming and grazing. A man of integrity, the late Mr. Parkins made many friends all over the district, and was held in the greatest esteem and affection by everyone who had the good fortune to know him. He had a quiet unassuming nature and never spoke ill of anyone. His wife and children mourn the loss of a devoted and good husband and father. The late Mr. Parkins had been in indifferent health for a long time. Three years ago he consulted a specialist in Melbourne. He was married at Wellington to Miss Violet Glew, of Bylong, by whom he is survived with the following family: Messrs. George Parkins ('Bernam'), Douglas Parkins ('Bernam'), Mesdames. Reg (Phemie) Harvey (Mudgee), Charles (Daisy) Bennett (Sydney), Clem (June) Hochkins (Melbourne) and Master Bruce Parkins (who attends school at Mudgee). Three bers and a sister also survive, namely: Messrs. Jim Parkins (Fitzroy Street) , Fred Parkins (Mascot), Alfred Parkins (Gunnedah) and Mrs. W. Freeburn (Rylstone). The funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the Gulgong cemetery, Rev. S. Carr officiating. Our sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 7 May 1953, page 17). |
