Mother, 22 drowns in dam

A 22-year-old mother of three young children drowned on Wednesday when she was thrown from a rearing horse into a dam, on a Glen Alice property.

The tragic accident occurred at about 12.15 p.m. as Mrs. Farrar, together with her husband, Mr. Ernest William Farrar, a farm hand of “Huntington,” were attempting to drag out a cow which had wandered into the dam.

Husband and wife, both non-swimmers, were riding horses.

As Mrs. Farrar positioned her horse in the dam, the animal suddenly reared, catapulting her into 12 feet of murky water.

Her husband tried desperately to save her life, but his efforts were in vain.

Sergeant Creswich and Senior Constable Kay of the Rylstone Police later recovered the body from the dam.

Mrs. Farrer was originally from Moree, and Mr. Farrar is a local man.
