Mudgee District Personalities One of the best known residents of Cooyal district, in the person of Mr. James Michael O'Brien, of 'Allybrook', passed away in Mudgee District Hospital on Tuesday last aged 72 years. Deceased, who was held in high regard by all sections of the community, is survived by a widow, two sons (James and Kevin) and two daughters (Catherine and Margaret), to whom deep sympathy is extended. The funeral took place this morning from St. Mary's to the Catholic portion of the Mudgee Cemetery, Rev. Fr. Scanlon, of Gulgong, officiating. Messrs. Death Notice Lucie Winifred O'Brien The death occurred in the Mudgee District Hospital, of Mrs Lucie Winifred O'Brien, 71, of Horatio Street, on Sunday December 1. She is survived by her children, Catherine, Bede, Margaret and Kevin. Her funeral left St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday, after a requiem mass, for interment in the Mudgee Cemetery. Obituary Notice Kevin Joseph O'Brien The tragic death of local stock carrier and grazier Kevin O'Brien, 50, of Cooyal on September 6 has left a void for his loving family and the community. Kevin is survived by his wife of 26 years, Valerie (nee Tomkins) and children Suzanne, Michael, Louise, Warwick and Grahame, sisters Sr Catherine (Perthville), Margaret (Mrs George Nevell, Mudgee) and brother Bede (Mudgee). The youngest son of James Michael and Lucy Winifred (Hundy) O'Brien (deceased), Kevin was educated at Cooyal Public School, St Matthews Mudgee and Mudgee Technical College. He pursued a farming and grazing partnership with his ber Bede until 1970. Kevin commenced his stock and general transport business at this time and through his dedication and reliability, he established a successful carrying business with a valued local clientele, transporting stock, wool, grain and super. He maintained the property 'Allynbrook', Cooyal with assistance from his family and produced quality fat lambs for the local market. Kevin was a supportive member of the Cooyal Bush Fire Brigade, Cooyal Rifle Club, Cooyal Hall Association and Cooyal Catholic Church for the last 30 years. His conscientious desire to give the best service to his clients and willingness to assist anyone will long be remembered. A keen pool player, his quiet competitive nature and enjoyment of the game will be acknowledged by all challengers at the Old Cooyal Hotel. A requiem mass was celebrated by Fathers O'Connell, Kennedy, Murphy and Frawley at St Mary's Catholic Church, Mudgee on Saturday, September 9.
